My Asus T180 has 3 GB of RAM. I researched and purchased 4 1 GB sticks and installed them. The computer would not boot and had a beep sound every couple seconds. I removed all four, and one at a time tried each stick. Same beep. Identity on the stick: 1GB 1Rx8 PC2 - 6400P - 586 - 12 - F3

S/N M393T28630ZA - CF7 0903. HARD TO READ AND I CAN'T FIND MY MAG GLASS.

Hi bakertech, sorry to hear of the problems with your new RAM modules.

Here's a suggested plan of attack in order to try to resolve the issues.

1 Review the research you carried out to determine compatible memory as this can sometimes be a trifle tricky, for example server RAM is sometimes different from ordinary desktop RAM.

2 To assist you in checking the result of your research go here:

www.crucial.com

and download and install their system scanner.

The Scanner will provide you with full details of the specifications of the RAM modules that are required and prices...... You don't have to purchase RAM modules from them but if you do then they will guarantee to provide you with compatible modules.

3 Do make sure that you run the scanner on the Asus T180 machine and with the "old" working RAM installed..!

Let us know how you get on

Regards

WTT Tech Teacher,

Thank you for the help. I did download the crucial scan and it is not compatible with win 10. I do intend to roll back to my trusty win 7 pro as soon as I feel safe doing it. Maybe I should do this first. What do you think? Bob

Hi Bob, I'm not sure about your research..... for example you say

I did download the crucial scan and it is not compatible with win 10

I have just downloaded the Crucial scanner on my Win 10 64 bit laptop and it runs perfectly, and shows details of both existing and compatible memory

It might be worthwhile having another go

Let us know how you get on

Regards
