:welcome:   1Connie,

Your computer may be able to run Windows 10 but it would have to be a clean install as only Windows 7 and 8/8.1 can be upgraded.

What I would suggest, download and run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor which you can get from here if your computer is capable of running Windows 7 then it is most likely good enough for Windows 10.

Tip: If you decide to do a clean install be sure to save all of your drivers to a USB thumb drive first.

I very much doubt that it will run windows 7. Most likely you motherboard and CPU are obsolete. Just a note there are almost obsolete CPUs on newegg.

The OP has never bothered to reply but fwiw Joe-the - engineer below is a screenshot of the specs of an old Sony Vaio that originally shipped with Vista that I have had since 2007, skipped Windows 7 and went straight to Windows 8, 8.1 and as you can see for yourself now running Windows 10 Pro, any input that helps others is most welcome but please only post in a thread if offering constructive guidance to the OP, thank you.

I'm sure it will work.

But, my laptop  has had no updates for some time now and that has prevented me from trying your suggested method.

So, I think what I will do is purchase the WINDOWS 7 OS, install it, and go from there.

I will check back and let you know how it went.

Thank you .

Paying for Windows 7 and then Windows 10 will be expensive and is quite possibly avoidable.

What is the problem you are having with updates, not being able to download and run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor suggests that the Vaio has no internet connection, is that correct.

Vaio has internet connection. What it didn't have was up-to-date VISTA updates as Microsoft no longer sends them.

Microsoft also stopped sending updates for "Security Essentials" which left Computer unprotected.

I have now done a clean install of  Windows 7 home using the Windows 7 home OS CD I purchased.

I have also installed all 200(?? ) updates that followed.

All went smoothly and all seems fine (so far).

But, I do need to find a good Anti-virus that works well with Windows 7. Can you recommend something please?

Thank you

That was because Microsoft ended support for Vista SP2 and for Microsoft Security Essentials on computers running Vista SP2 on April 11, 2017, this should not have prevented you from being able to download and run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor meaning that something else was amiss, a clean install of Windows 7 seems to have been the best option

You are welcome btw  :)
