I have a Lenovo H500S desktop and use W8.1 64bit.

Everytime I start my computer I get this message:

"BrCtrlCntr.exe-System Error. The program can't start because VCOMP100.DLL is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem."

Should I do anything about this message?  Thanks for any replies.

Follow these steps to try and (re)install the missing VCOMP100.DLL file:

Go to this Microsoft page: https://www.microsof...s.aspx?id=26347and click the red Download button.

A window will pop up showing the three various versions, download and run the vcredist_x64.EXE version.

This should replace/restore the VCOMP100.DLL with the most recent copy provided by Microsoft.

If that doesn't fix it, you might try reinstalling your Brother (printer) Control Center software.

I downloaded and ran the vcredist_x64.EXE, but I'm getting the same popup each time I start my computer.  My printer is working fine for my uses, so is it necessary to try reinstalling my printer software?  How do you know that the VCOMP100.DLL popup is a result of a problem with my printer software?  A VCOMP100.DLL popup can result from malware.

If you think you have malware, please visit our "Virus, Spyware & Malware Removal" forum and follow the "Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide" instructions. This will guide you through a few preparations, as well as instruction for posting your OTListIt2 log in that forum.

The only indication that I possibly have malware is the recurring .DLL popup.  My computer is running fine and I regularly run Malwarebytes with no infected files detected and have Spywareblaster and AVG installed.

Try restoring a backup that was made when the computer was working right.

If that's not available, try reinstalling your Brother (printer) Control Center software.

A couple other options you might try

Option 1

Start Windows in Safe Mode to complete any of the following steps if you're unable to access Windows normally due to the vcomp100.dll error.

Download the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update and run it. This will replace/restore the vcomp100.dll with the most recent copy provided by Microsoft.

Option 2

Try running windows repair all in one. Follow the Getting Started Steps and perform all 4, then Select All Repairs or Common Repairs.
