Hello there,

My laptop froze during browsing and the only measure to take was to switch it off. When I switched it back on, I am presented with the Samsung screen (the laptop is a Samsung R580) for a couple of seconds, before Being taken to a black screen with an underscore (_) sign located in the top-left which flashes a few times, before becoming a plain black screen with nothing else on.

During the couple of seconds where Im presented with the Samsung screen I have the options to press either F2 for setup or F4 for recovery. I have tried both these options, pressing F2 for going to setup and selecting setup defaults via F9 to load default configuration, as well as pressing F4 to load Samsung Recovery which loads the starting windows screen before taking me to Samsung Recovery solution 4, and trying a Basic Restore. However this Basic Restore does not complete and remains stuck at a certain point, no matter how long I leave it for.

I have also tried pressing F7 upon startup to active Windows SafeMode which is usually available. However, now for some reason I am only presented with the option to load Windows 7 and there is no Safe Mode option available. When I try selecting Windows 7 it just takes me to a black screen again.

Does anyone have any further suggestions for West I could try? Thanks...

:welcome:   DanWS,

Couple of questions if I may;

I have also tried pressing F7 upon startup to active Windows SafeMode which is usually available.

Do you mean F8, if not, please restart while continually tapping the F8 key and see what/if anything happens.

Do you have Windows 7 media such as a DVD installation disk.

Is there any data that you would like to secure in case of hard drive failure.
