Hi, I never thought I would have to ask for help with this one but I'm just wasting time trying to find the answer. I use the free version of CCleaner which seems to do the job without any known issues but I have noticed recently that every time I use it now I am confronted with the message- 'Google Chrome needs to be closed to clean the Internet Cache'. 

 

As you probably know Chrome downloads with CCleaner if you forget to uptick it when there is an update, and yes I must have forgotten. Immediately after the update on realising I have downloaded Chrome I uninstall it and that is what I did after the last update yet I get the message every time I use CCleaner and it takes up time in attempting to close it before asking if it should be forcibly closed.

 

I can only presume that some remnants of it are still present and active. Will someone tell me how to remove all parts of it as I have no intentions of using Chrome.

Hi azari, thanks for your response. The info regarding suspicious code found in CCleaner is a bit beyond me and I am not sure of the possible significance regarding the issue I have. I have downloaded and tried the free version of Revo Uninstaller but just as with CCleaner there is no mention of Google Chrome in the program list.

This only seems logical to me as I uninstalled it when I realised I had forgotten to uptick the download box. What I need to know is what the reference is being made to when I get the message saying that Chrome will not close when, as far as I know can not be running.

Can you post an Autoruns log for us, download from here  

 

1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.

2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".

3: Click on the "Hide Signed Microsoft and Windows Entries” option.

4: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.

5: Save AutoRuns.txt file to known location like your Desktop > when you click on File > Save you will then get the option to Save as type, click the drop down tab, change it to Text and then click the Save button.

6: Attach to your next reply.

dmccoy, the Chrome cleanup tool is for cleaning up Chrome and getting it to work properly, not removing it. A bit confusing from Google

Hi, thanks for these responses. There have been some changes in that there is no longer a holdup when Ccleaner comes across some Chrome files. The four listed are -Internet Cache, Internet history, Cookies and Download History. I think last ‘Download Location’ was also there a one point but it no longer shows.

 

At the side of the four file it says ‘skipped’, when I remove them and scan again they re-appear each time.

I have attached the log you wanted and though it is not as annoying now I would still like to find out why this is happening if possible.

Looks like the latest Chrome episode was initiated within the Vivaldi web browser, the others are old, to get rid of the unwanted Chrome entries delete them in Autoruns, see To Disable or Delete? info here
