Well dont you know if you put it in, chances are if you didnt have any thermal material at all the thing is buggered you shoulda waited you dont have a gfx card so wasnt if you were gonna get anything on the screen you should have left it and gave the thing a good checking over when you added the gfx card.
You will probably have to start again the mobo should be okay and the cpu might be intact but probably not. And next time dont turn on your pc until its finished.

Thanks for the correction fernsy---Standing on my head for too lond. At least an A socket pretty much rules out the possibility of jamming the wrong cpu in there---structural impossibility, like putting a watermelon in a banana peeling!

I stand corrected.
