A massive computer/chip problem and not even a mention on tech blogs!

so re the current Intel chip bug I am shocked at the dearth of simple information useful to computer users. Commentators say the need for updates when they come - from where? How to find them? Who is going to inform us about them? No one says.

Also if a hacker can use this bug how can it be used - by attacking  individual computers one by one (so small chance of getting an attack) or a massive attack on millions of computers at once which would generate sensitive files downloaded on the attacker's computer?

Can anyone enlighten us please?  Thanks.
