Hi,

Having an issue with system restore. It's giving me the appstaging error (I forgot to write down the error code). My computer seems to be slowing down and chrome keeps crashing so I'd like to be able to restore back two weeks ago.

Any help would be much appreciated! :) Thanks!
Lisa

Please download and follow the steps below as the first step

http://filehippo.com/download_speccy

1. File > Save Snapshot.  This will create a file called [hostname].speccy

2. File > Publish Snapshot.  This saves your snapshot to our servers

If you want to try System restore again. Your best option is to try running from Safe mode and see if it will work. If not I see a few issues that are probably causing the issues. Start first by trying to restore and then we will continue from there if needed. Let me know if you have any questions and how the restore goes.

Not working. When I go into safe mode I get

ctfmon.exe error

exception processing message 0x000005 paramenter 0x7ffcb0eb17a8 0x7ffcb0e17a8 and I think it repeated again two times, wasn't able to write down all of it.

Also my keyboard wouldn't work in safe mode, couldn't type into the search box. so forced it to shut down and reboot normally. No clue what's going on.

Okay, looks like we are going to have to try and fix without restoring.

Step 1:
Click on Start menu
Type in cmd
Right click on cmd in list and select run as administrator
1. sfc /scannow
2. dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

When these have completed.
Right click on the top bar command window
Left click on Edit then Select All
Right click on the top bar again
Left click on edit then copy
paste into your reply

Step 2:
Download Process Explorer

1. Save it to your desktop then run it. Right Click and Select Run As Administrator
2. Select View Menu Click Select Columns
3. In the Select Columns Window Check Verified Signer and Click OK
4. Select Options Menu and Check Verify Image Signatures
5. Double Click o the CPU Column to sort by highest CPU usage.
(System Idle Process should be at the top once sorted properly)
6. Wait approximately a minute
7. Select Save or Save As from the File Menu and save System Idle Process.txt to Desktop
8. Upload the file to your Reply

Step 3:
Please download and Run the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso

1. Right click on the Vew program and select Run as Administrator
2.. Under Select log to query
3. select System
4. Under Select type to list
Select:
* Error
* Warning
Choose the Number of events as follows:
Click on umber of events
Type 20 in the box (1 to 20)
Click the Run button (Notepad will open the log)
upload files to next reply
Rename to SystemLog.txt or it will be overwritten

Run these steps again Except at step 3.
Select Application
Rename log file to ApplicationLog.txt
Upload or Paste to next reply

Seems like a lot of people are experiencing similar issues and it seems to be caused by the latest AMD driver. Have you recently updated that driver? Most of the fixes I am seeing are to remove the existing driver and download a previous version.

ATI Radeon™ HD 4000/ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4000, ATI Radeon™ HD 3000/ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3000, and ATI Radeon™ HD 2000/ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 2000 Series Graphics reached peak performance optimization in October, 2013.

No additional driver releases are planned for these products.
The last operating system supported using the AMD drivers was Microsoft Windows® 8 with the AMD Catalyst 13.1 driver package, which can be downloaded from the AMD Driver page

I would also recommend testing by removing Kapersky AV program and only using Windows 10 Defender. There is an error with Malwarebytes as well, please check for newer version or uninstall while troubleshooting.

Tried, got this new error:

The module "ActivationManager.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DIIUnregisterServer was not found.

Make sure that "ActivationManager.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again

My display driver was automatically updated in December by windowsupdates, it messed up my display so I had to roll back (back when restore worked) and block the driver from getting updated again.

A little research on that dll sounds like it is a from a browser add on and can even be caused by maleware. Have you ran any malware scans to confirm your free of any? Also did you try without Kaspersky to see how it performs?
