Yesterday Antivir started warning me about wkssvc.exe and once about rdriv.sys

I believe I have deleted both files (using Killbox and deleting rdriv.sys in safe mode from run "cmd")

But here is a fresh HJT log anyway. I can't see anything about it that looks bad.

Thanks for all your help so far. I am running Zone alarm, spyware blaster, antivir at all times. I also scan using TDS3, adaware, spybot s+d, and I regularly run Cleanup as well. So I don't know why all of this rdriv.sys business is so ridiculously stubborn.

Visibly wrong, no. Internally wrong, yes. If you had rdriv.sys then various entries have been added to the registry and there may be more files hiding out :tazz: I will be back as soon as possible with the instructions to make sure everything pertaining to the worm is gone.

now I understand why some people fdisk at the first sign of one of these pests.

Personally, if I were to ever become infected with this I would re-format. It is a root-kit and I won't trust a system that has been rooted until is has been wiped clean. But that's just my personal opinion. I do have the fix that will take care of this. The instructions are as follows:

Please follow all instructions as specified. Print these instructions to ensure all are followed.

Please download the following programs, but do not run them yet:

* rdrivRem.zip
*Unzip it to your desktop.
* Ewido Security Suite
*Install ewido security suite
*Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
*The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
*The program will now go to the main screen
*You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
*On the left hand side of the main screen click update
*Click on Start
*The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
*After the updates are installed exit Ewido.
* CleanUp!
*Install it.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight "Safe Mode" then hit enter.

1.) Please double-click rdrivRem.bat to run the program - follow the instructions on the screen.

2.) Double-click the Ewido Security Suite icon to run the program. Set the program up as follows:
*Click on scanner
*Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
*Binder
*Crypter
*Archives

*Click on Start Scan
*Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first file. Choose "clean", then put a check next to "Perform action on all infections" in the left corner of the window (this way you don't have to sit and watch ewido) click OK
*Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
*Click Save report
*Save the report to your desktop.

3.) Run Cleanup! by double-clicking the Cleanup! icon on your desktop.

After running cleanup! reboot your computer into normal mode.

4.) Make sure your firewall is on.
Go to Start > Run type:

firewall.cpl

Click OK.

Make sure you can turn it off then turn it back on and that nothing is greyed out.
Also, Make sure your Anti-Virus program is working properly - you can turn on and off auto-protect, etc.

5.) Run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Save the results from ActiveScan.

I need you to post the log from Ewido, the log from ActiveScan, and a new HiJackThis log into this topic.

- Ewido did not find anything
- Panda scan has never worked on my computer, but I ran the other online scan and it found nothing.

Still not showing anything.

Interestingly enough, Antivir popped up a warning message telling me that it detected a file in my system restore folder as a trojan. I turned off system restore and turned it back on again (which should delete all of that, right?) so I hope not to see any more problems in that area.

To be realistic, I will probably reformat sometime late in this summer anyway. But thanks to all the help I got here, I can have those few months of hassle-free computing.

Were you trying to use Firefox to run ActiveScan? If yes, that's why it didn't work, but if the other didn't find anything and Ewido didn't find anything - then you're good to go!

Yes, turning off System Restore and turning it back on does clear everything hiding out in System Restore :tazz:

That last thing I recommend doing is uninstalling McAfee. It's never a good idea to have more than one anti-virus program running on a system.

Oh... well I just disabled McAfee protection. Does it matter beyond that? I suppose I could just uninstall.

Thanks again for all your help.

It didn't disable as it was supposed to then, because you still have McAfee in running processes which means it's still enabled along with your other anti-virus program.
