Hi there, I am pretty sure I have a virus. I downloaded a utility program off the internet and I installed it using Total Uninstall ( https://www.martau.com/ ) . When I executed the program a black "cmd" window popped for about 200 msec and then disappeared. The utility did not open a GUI and did not provide the functionality it was supposed to. So I immediately uninstalled it using the Total Uninstaller snapshot. However, Total Uninstall reported two uninstall errors, registry entries created by the program which could not be deleted. I have tried everything under the sun to get rid of them: permission changes, etc. running as administrator etc. and nothing works. Should I be worried about this? The first registry entry shows up in regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\

The second registry does not show up, but is shown in the Total Uninstall report:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\8DEC0AF1-0341-4b93-85CD-72606C2DF94C-7P-110@(Default)

I tried going in using Hirens and ran the PE registry editor, but it displays a whole lot less keys than regedit and I am not sure where they have gone.

Thanks for your help!!!

Dave

Take ownership of the key:

Above is for win 7 but should work on other versions.

Once you are the owner you can change permissions to give your login full control.  Then you can delete the key.
