I'm hoping you guys can help me a little bit. But I don't have high hopes for this MicroSD Card.

Problem: My phone reported the MicroSD card as corrupt. Fixed it via a reformat on my Windows machine using an adapter. Put it back in the phone and a couple hours later - corrupt again. Tried having Android fix the SD Card. It "finished" as in it left the screen showing the format percentage. Still couldn't see the storage space on the phone. Took it back out, and tried to reformat the SD card via Windows (again). Windows wouldn't recognize it.

Troubleshooting:

I used Diskpart (CLI) and Disk Management (GUI) to get some information from it. Disk Management (after I disconnected the drive) reported an unallocated 8GB size. This card is 16GB. File System was RAW, which it isn't supposed to be. Moved onto diskpart to try and glean more information. "list volume" done at separated by 10 seconds reported two different sizes. 8GB and 522GB; neither of which are correct. No volume on my system has a size of 522GB. Tried to reformat it with fat32 (and later tried NTFS) File Systems. Both failed. Event Viewer registered 2 warnings (that spammed Logs).

The IO Operation at logical block address xxxx1 for Disk 7 was retried.
The IO Operation at logical block address xxxx2 for Disk 7 was retried.

*Disk 7 was the actual disk for the MicroSD Card. I just don't have the blocks. There were only two blocks from the couple dozen I checked.

Tried other systems and adapters (4 systems in total - each tried all 3 adapters). Linux (CentOS), Mac (High Sierra?), Windows (Home & Enterprise) all failed to identify and fix the problem. 3 different adapters were used. 2 Micro to Mini and a Mulltimedia Device - connecting via a USB - (Mini & Micro compatible).

The Enterprise Version of Windows registered this error

The device, \Device\Harddisk1\DR3, has a bad block.

I've had my dad look at it (Virtualization Engineer), and he's run out of ideas.

Looking at a dead SD card or are we missing something super obvious??

Adding more information.

The drive has an assigned letter; I:/. But it won't see any thing on it. No information on size. I haven't tried chkdsk yet (would it even work?).

What could cause the size reported to be incorrect?

Edit: So no, chkdsk doesn't work on the RAW file system type. I'm not really surprised there. I stopped by the place where I got it (Major Canadian Phone Retailer) and explained when I got it, and what's wrong with it. They're going to exchange it for me, given it's a warranty claim. I still however have a week or so to actually figure out what's wrong with it. (That'll be about how long it takes for the order to come in).

So suggestions are still appreciated!

Yeah, it sounds like it is failing/failed. That happens. SD cards have a limited life in terms of writing to them.

A few days ago a situation similar to yours appeared which followed the following order.

Detect and verify on the phone the type of error that this caused.

Once that I decided to totally lose the information since I would use the disk management tool.

(before using dr disk management)

supervise the information from diskpart, I wanted to clean something from there that did not work for me or rather I throw errors that could not be completed.

in administration tools I eliminated the volume and formatted. I removed the SD from the PC. re-inserted and use HDD low level format (free) to delete and start from scratch, this tool cleans all damaged sectors of memory and today is functional. Luck

Hi,

​I've used everything under the sun that I can think of. I started with Windows Format, then went to Disk Management, formatting the File System, volume etc. I actually got the call yesterday that the new SD card is in, so I'll go pick it up later tonight. Disk Management is as about as low as you can get without trying to strip the individual bits off of it :-)
