I have a Seagate external hard drive that we were using as a storage unit for the xbox one.  This hard drive has videos and music that I had installed prior to our using it on the xbox.  I didn't want to loose those files.  we did not format the drive for use on xbox however now when i try to use the drive on my pc windows 10 the file box says unallocated.  Is there a way to recover the files on this disc?

How much data is there that you are hoping to recover (some free trial programs such as Easeus have a cap of 2GB before charging to use their recovery software).

 

How much free storage space is/was available on the drive previous to this happening.

i did try accessing from another computer and i still cannot read the disc files.   My other external hard drives work properly. This 1tb drive had about six hours worth of videos from my go pro that i was hoping to recover .  I don't know exactly how much file space, possibly around 200gb?

I recommend trying testdisk for possible recovery.

testdisk doesn't seem to work with windows 10.  i will try to use XP from work tomorrow.

I have never experienced that issue.

 

TestDisk can run under

Testdisk does recognize the Seagate drive and correctly identifies the memory specs however it does not recognize any partitions.  initially shows "no partition is bootable".  When I run Testdisk quick search on the intel/pc partition it comes back with "No partition found or selected for recovery".  I'm running the quick search on the Xbox portion and it continues to show "read error" 

 

I read a post that referred me to Digiex website to download an Xbox One to PC conversion tool and that tool doesn't recognize my seagate hard drive as a XBox unit.

 

Do any of you have a recommendation of where I can take my external drive to have a professional attempt to recover this data. I am in Northern California.

Okay, it must be an issue with the Xbox format which I am not familiar with.

Seagate does offer a Data Recovery Service through their website.  I have sent my unit to Seagate to see if they can recover my Data.  Cost is $49 for them to attempt to recover and $399 charge to have data returned on another hard disk.  Charges will only occur if they are able to recover my files.  I will post results when they return my drive.  Up to 6 weeks.
