Hi,

Can anyone tell me if you are able to open more than one facebook account ?

I have read a few things online....that suggest various things...

Such as you can open more than one account using just one email address...

Other things suggest that you can open only one FB account per email address..

other things say your only supposed to have one FB account...

or some say that FB may make out that they only want you to have one FB acount, but you can have more than one in reality /  legally or within their rules..

Its often suggested that also you need to open a FB account with your real name...

But I am aware of some people using made up names ! and also having more than one account sometimes with the same names ( or closely related) that they use...

I would like to open a couple of accounts ...but not in my real name .. just for browsing sake....I dont really intend to post under them..

but I am trying to be sure on how best to go about it... as I am also told that you can get banned permanently in some cases if they find out your doing certain things wrong..

This is one of  Facebooks info pages on "Names"... that may offer certain guidance... but Im not sure it totally or fully explains on certain things or may appear to contradict a few things.. and seems to be left to ones own views on how we interpret or perceive it ... or on our  estimated views on how its worded...

It mentions about some variation in selecting or editing a name...   but I am not sure if this is based on us just having one account...

so we may have one account and could change the name...if thats their rule..  but I dont think it seems to indicate that you could open another account using another name...

This is on editing ones name...

Thanks in advance if anyone can advise..

Take a look here:

https://en-gb.facebook.com/legal/terms

and scroll down to section 4.1 and 4.2

and

if you were, don't even think about using Win XP for it.....that would really be asking for trouble!

The link I have provided is from their UK site but I think their terms are similar in most areas of the world.

Good find  "Paws"...

ref 4.2 does seem to clarify what I was asking about...

which does now at least make me fully aware of what  FBs rule is on how many accounts we are supposed to be allowed... Officially !

Whether they really check everyones accounts... or not may be another question if one decides to risk having more...  I certainly dont think that was the case a few years ago.. for those who may have more..

but it maybe that anyone opening one now is at more risk of being detected..

and I asume maybe some people have ways of trying to cover their ISP etc if they do so and maybe your suggesting Old Op systems like XP... would maybe more easily alert them.

I am not sure however how they could perminently ban or stop anyone opening another account at some other time if they have banned them initially...if say a person opened up another account on another ISP..

I do think that many people have more than one account and as long as they are careful and dont abuse in using them in anyway... that may alert them to any isues...

It seems that you would not be causing any problems.

I thought maybe the one account rule may have been more of an issue if you have a business account with FB...where one does need to be upfront in giving ones personal details if they say intended to advertise / promote  or sell their products goods services or  on FB.

but just to browse on FB and if one does not post any comments.. or only an odd one or to say use it  for personal messages(). you would not think having more than one account would be a concern to them.

It does seem the risk is with the individual  if they chance opening other accounts...and you have to accept that you could be permanently banned if detected.

I think those that have achieved opening  a 2nd account have used a different name and email and maybe opened it on another ISP to their home or regular location..

Many thanks for finding those details .

In ref to having more than one Facebook account.... say on ones single household  ISP

Thinking about things further..

If there are more persons who use the same ISP and each has different email addresses...

then each person can open one  account each...

so as long as you show a different email address..

One person could still open more than one account...

As I am almost  sure that they do not check on each name given...on each account...

and one person could just use made up names under different email addresses..

Unless they have ways of say checking that the email addresses used do not belong to one individual...

say for eg if you used several yahoo emails adresses for eg...

I think with yahoo email presently... if you open up an email account with them... they now want you to give say your valid mobile number...

where as any one with older yahoo email addresses did not have to give a valid mobile number..

whether they could then check up with yahoo or not in ref to that as an eg.. I dont know, but id rather doubt it..

and Im not sure if when a new yahoo email account if you also are forced to give your real name that relates to your Mobile Number..

But there maybe other emails services tha you can open emails addresses that do not require an valid info like mobile numbers..

It does seem however that numerous online type business services are trying trying to get your real  true identity details..

Unless someone knows different..or still disagrees....

I think thats now answered my concern of questions as Its seems a logical solution that I think I am now more clear about in understanding how one is able to go

about opening up other FB accounts....

If what I have described seems OK...

Does " Paws "  still see any issues if I was to still use Windows XP   to open another account using another email address ?

Hi dowsp

The point I was alluding to in my comments on Win XP was not in connection specifically with Facebook but was made in general terms that without taking extraordinary precautions it is "unwise" to use an out of date, or obsolete operating system without it being isolated from other data sources (including of course, USB, floppy disc, CD/DVD, Zip drives and the like and of course the Internet itself....this does impact the functionality of the computer considerably, but is a necessary price to pay if one wishes to continue using Win XP with a degree of safety.

As to Facebook's Terms of Use and Rules/Requirements I do not wish to comment in any way on what you have said, save for making the point that the  Section 4.1 and 4.2 referred to in my previous post seem to be quite clear and unambiguous, so I cannot and will not offer any assistance or comments in how they may be circumvented.

I do hope you will understand the position.

Thanks for your further comments Paws...

I have become more aware of some of the issues in me using Windows XP also in some other threads that I have asked about that were in ref to some malware issues that I had been asking about that I believe that I may still have on my system that some other advisors have also informed and tried to advise me about.

In ref to some things that  I have commented about to do with Facebook.

I have just noted a post that Facebook have sent to my FB timeline page daily posts...which I have a feeling is related to some of my recent activity.. that may or may not be a coincidence...

but to me seems rather strange that they have sent to me....   in which I have a feeling that it is some form of spyware (or keylogger ) that they have in their system that can monitor its clients other online activity also seperate from what one may do on Facebook...

I wonder is this giving me some sort of pre warning and that they may well also be aware of my recent communication on this website also..

As I see No reason why they should have sent this to my FB timeline...

Im not sure if this is maybe due to some weaknesses in me using Windows XP that may allow them more easily to be able to monitor me... or if they can do so,  would they also be able to do this on any of the more updated systems that have all the latest and best security , operating system and browsers....

If FB is able to monitor us in such a way... then no doubt they could  or may know if a individual has opened or using another or other FB accounts...
