I have an Advent 4211 laptop running on Windows XP, and a blue screen appears everytime I try to start the laptop. How do I do a factory reset without a CD?

:welcome:    Simal,

 How do I do a factory reset without a CD?

The only way possible is if there is a recovery partition on the HDD, the steps to check if there is such a partition are copy/paste below;

When the PC starts you will see a menu for two seconds. Press the UP or DOWN arrow and this will pause the menu and allow you to choose an option.
Highlight The TechGuys Recovery and press the Enter key.
This will load into the recovery program.
Select Reinstall Windows by clicking on the circle to the left.
Click the right arrow.
Put a tick in the box next to Start Full Destructive Recovery.
Click the right arrow to start Recovery.
When Recovery has completed, click the right arrow to restart the system.
Your computer will then return you to its initial out-of-box experience.

Please note that using any recovery partition will erase all personal data on the HDD so back up any important data first.

Edit to add: Couple of questions if I may;

Do you get any on screen messages (Stop Codes) when you get the blue screen/s.

Are you able to start the computer in Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when you power up the notebook.
