sophos removal tool was a virus scanning program (found nothing) and not a software removal so sophos is still on my system

Okay you can use Autoruns like you did with the others to remove. It looks like it is only one entry an schedule updater. Type Sophos in Filter box and Delete entry.

i think i managed to do the device manager sequence

Glad it worked so your drivers should all be updated. What else is going on with your computer?

Are you saying that i have to upgrade from windows 7 and go on to windows 10 ?

I am sorry, I got confused and thought you were using Win 10 so please disregard that step.

sorry i should have said that i have already done that step for sophos and the programme still won't go.

If it will not delete from Autoruns, then it may have to be deleted in safe mode. Will it allow you to Disable by unchecking the box in Autoruns?

any idea how i can get google chrome to stop crashing ?

Download the following program and follow instructions on how to use to clean up your browser. I also recommend resetting it to Reset to default settings.

Ccleaner

How to use

Also perform the following steps:

Windows All in One Repair Tool

https://www.bleeping...air-all-in-one/

Download either the portable or install program

  1. Start computer in Safe Mode
  2. Disable any Anti-Virus programs
  3. Start the program
  4. When program first starts it will run quick file check
  5. Click on the X button after the scan shows Done!
  6. Click on Settings tab and Select Check for Updates
  7. Click on Pre-Repair Steps Tab and Run All 4 Steps
  8. Select both Registry Backup and Create System Restore
  9. Click Presets: All Repairs
  10. Click Start Repairs

For Best Results Run the Repairs option Twice!

Don't worry.

It's fine if it takes a few more days.

Hope it all goes well.

when i have just tried to delete Sophos in Autoruns (again) it came up with this (see attachment "Document"

Okay, try to start in safe mode and then run Autoruns and see if it will allow it to be disabled or deleted

Also my internet crashed on me again see attached no longer than a few minutes at a time uobefore it crashes (see attachment "internet crashing")

Okay, lets try cleaning up your browser and see if it works better. If not, then try firefox, opera, Edge etc and see if the same problems.

CCleaner

http://filehippo.com...nload_ccleaner/

https://www.howtogee...-9-tips-tricks/

Lets also check your event logs and more as follows:

  1. Click on Start menu
  2. Type in command to search the menu
  3. Right click on Command Prompt in list and select Run as Administrator
  4. Copy and Paste the full command below into the command console
  5. This will create SystemDiagnostics folder on your Desktop
  6. Compress the folder to a .zip file and upload to your reply

MD "%userprofile%\desktop\SystemDiagnostics"&dxdiag /t %userprofile%\desktop\SystemDiagnostics\dxdiag.txt&systeminfo > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\SystemDiagnostics\systeminfo.txt"&msinfo32 /nfo "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\SystemDiagnostics\msinfo32.nfo"&wevtutil qe System /c:20 /f:text > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\SystemDiagnostics\SystemEventlog.txt"&wevtutil qe Application /c:20 /f:text > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\SystemDiagnostics\ApplicationEventlog.txt"&wmic /output:"%userprofile%\desktop\SystemDiagnostics\Software.txt" product get Name, Version&wmic /namespace:\\root\SecurityCenter2 path AntiVirusProduct get * /value > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\SystemDiagnostics\Antivirus.txt"&If Exist "%SystemRoot%\minidump\*.dmp" copy %SystemRoot%\minidump\*.dmp "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\SystemDiagnostics"

Are there several files in the SystemDiagnostics folder? Is this error happening when you try to compress it to a .zip file? If you cannot get that to work you can upload all the files in the folder.

Sophos AutoUpdate is showing under your list of installed software. Does it give you the option to uninstall it? Did you try removing with Autoruns in safe mode like I suggested?

Did you perform the CCleaner steps and did it make any difference of your browser crashing?

  1. Click on Start icon
  2. Type Command
  3. Right click on Command Prompt and select to Run As Administrator
  4. Copy and Paste the following into Command Prompt

dism /online /get-packages > 0 & notepad 0

  1. Save the file and upload to your reply
