So, I have a TV box that allows me to watch Youtube videos and stuff like that on my TV(not an Apple TV), and I have an HDMI cable, which I am aware can be used to hook your laptop to your TV, so you can see the one on the other.  However, as I understand it, this only shows what's on the laptop's screen.  What I'd like to do is have my Itunes movies playing on my TV, while I'm doing something else, like writing or gaming.  So, does anyone know how to do that?

You can use the tv as an extended display while the hdmi cord is connected however I'm sure this would be a little impractical as you'd need a long cord. It would be easier if you used an ipad/iphone to airplay the movie while you use the computer. This method would also use less resources; meaning if you're gaming on the computer it won't be slowed down by the itunes movies.

My TV is right next to my computer, so that's not a problem.  What is a problem is that the TV isn't displaying my computer screen.  I should probably mention I have an old TV with no HDMI port, so I've connected it with an HDMI/RCA adapter.
