Hi Gregg,
With Cloudflare, and free SSH certificates, making a website secure, or HTTPS is easier than ever. So why haven't we done it? Simply put, the version of forum software we use is rather old, and doesn't fully support HTTPS. While there is an option for secure login, it creates duplicate content issues with search engines. There are also some clunky workarounds to force HTTPS with this version, but they all have compromises. Why haven't we just updated to a newer version of forum software? Newer versions have an editor that doesn't fully support bbcode (the code used to format posts like this). BBCode is used extensively by malware removal staff, here and many other sites.
We're currently in a "holding pattern". Hoping that developers choose to implement bbcode fully, or chose another forum platform and migrate. MIgrating to other forum software has a whole host of other issues.
I haven't visited this issue in a while. I promise to poke around and see if there are any better solutions that have become available.
