Problems with iPhone 6s pairing Ink’d Wireless

I bought a pair of Inkd wireless for a friend. I have the same phone and headphones and mine worked flawlessly. But we tried to pair the new headphones to his 6s straight out of the box. He has to go into settings and manually pair them. Then when he turns off either the headphones or the phone, he has to do it all over again. Why wont they stay paired and how do we fix it?
