Either way should work. Make sure there is no space before the -h. Let me know if you still have issues. powercfg -h off powercfg /h off  Go to the full post »

It's been a while I'm having this problem. When I shut down my laptop, the screen goes black but the processor does not stop working.

I need to press and hold laptop power button for 5-6 sec to it shuts down.

I don't know what is the cause of it, any solution is appreciated.

Thanks for your time in advance.

Hello jamesmehraa,

Funnily enough, I have been having exactly the same problem recently, with exactly the same result when I tried keying in powercfg - h off

Try keying in powercfg -hibernate off instead.
