My system will hang up seemingly randomly at times...

I can be doing anything, surfing the web let's say, and the browser will dim and the title bar will show the page I am on with (not responding) tagged on to the end. I can do nothing during this time. Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work, cannot bring up  Task Manager, nothing. The mouse will still move but that is about it. When it hangs it will stay that way for 1 - 2 minutes then resume normal operation. It may work correctly for a long time then hang again or it could just be a few minutes  then hang again. This is truly driving me nuts since there seems to be no rhyme or reason to this.....

I have been doing some reading on here but have not seen anything quite like this. And to prove that I have been reading here is my Speccy link:

http://speccy.pirifo...l1RVf6IppjnQf73

And I have attached my Process Explorer file here also.  :D

Thanks for reading! Any suggestiions are greatly appreciated.

Jim

I do not see any real issues from these reports. Lets look at some more things to see if they may help.

Step 1:
Click on Start menu
Type command to start searching
Right click on command prompt in list and select Run Administrator
Copy and Paste each the commands below into the command prompt and press Enter key

1. sfc /scannow (best to run 2-3 times, rebooting after each time)

If any Errors are found with sfc /scannow then:
Copy and Paste the following command, and press ENTER:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
This will copy sfcdetails.txt to your desktop
Upload sfcdetails.txt  file

Step 2:
Run Chkdsk

  • Click on Start menu
  • Type in command
  • Right click on Command Prompt in list and select Run as Administrator
  • Copy and Paste the command into the command window
chkdsk C:/r (make sure that C: is the correct drive letter or change if needed)

If the following message is displayed: Choose Y

"Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process.  Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)"

ListChkDskResult Program
Please download ListChkDskResult by SleepyDude and save it to your desktop.

  • Right-click on ListChkdskResult.png icon and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • A message about checking Windows Event Log will pop-up. Click OK.
  • Wait patiently until a notepad window will open. This won't take long.
  • The displayed logfile will be also saved to your desktop as ListChkDskResult.txt.
  • Please include the content of this file in your next reply.

Step 3:
Download the enclosed Diag.zip file to your desktop
Uncompress the diag.zip file to your desktop
Right clink on diag.bat and select Run as Administrator
Once it is finished, it will create a SystemDiagnostics folder on your desktop
Compress the folder to a SystemDiagnostics.zip file
Upload to your reply

How to Compress/Uncompress .Zip files

The SystemDiagnostic Folder should contain the following files after running.
    1. Antivirus.txt
    2. ApplicationEventlog.txt
    3. Dxdiag.txt
    4. Msinfo32.nvo
    5. Software.txt
    6. SystemEventlog.txt
    7. SystemInfo.txt
    8. Any Minidumps files that Exist (*.dmp)

Step 4:
Test using the following method and let me know if it still freezes or not.

No errors on the sfc.

I have had a couple hangs even with the clean boot, but not as many as normal.

And if I had not said it yet, thank you for the help. This has me stumped!

You are Welcome. The file you uploaded is the same file I uploaded. After you ran the diag.bat file it should have created a new SystemDiagnostics folder on your desktop and this is the folder I need you to compress and upload.

Did you pay attention to what you were doing when the hangs occurred? Are they easily repeatable? Have you tried other browsers with the same results?

[bleep]. Sorry about the file, it has already been a long and tiring day.....  Here is the right one.

It doesn't seem to matter what I am doing. It can happen in any app but does seem to happen a little more when using a browser, but that may just be because I use browsers more than other app. I use mostly Firefox but I use Chrome also. I try to avoid internet exploder.....

Same results no matter what app I am in. The system will hang for 1 - 2 minutes with me not being able to do anything. Something as simple as tryig to right click the task bar and launch task manager will sit there looking at me. Then when the system catches up with me whatever I tried to do during the hang time will suddenly happen. Sticking with the Task Manager example, as soon as the system comes back Task Manager launches.

I don't know why I am having such a problem getting theisfile to you...  Anyway, one more try. And I just got a BSOD for the first time since I have installed Win7.

So, I have also attached the files that the BSOD message pointed to in case they could give you any insight to anything.

But, as I said, this is the first time I have ever seen a BSOD on this windows installation.....

And I had to append ".txt" to the dmpfile because otherwise it would not allow me to upload it...

That bugcheck can be related to hard drive errors.

Please Download and Run SeaTools for Windows

1.  Once it starts it will scan for all drives connected to your computer.
2.  Select drive you want to test.
3.  Select the Long Generic Test under the Basic Tests menu
4.  When the test is complete you will see the result under Test Status
5.  The test will indicate either Pass or Fail.
6.  Provide the Results in your reply.

If you need to access the Results the Click on Help > View Log File.

We have two drives and one is just used for file storage, no programs or anything of that sort. But I ran the long test on both drives and they both came back as passed.

Okay lets check your memory as follows:

Run memtest86+ version 5.01 for at least 8 passes.
http://www.memtest.org/

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
This may take hours so plan to run it overnight.

Testing takes approximately 1 - 2 hours /GB RAM
Just 1 error is a fail and you can abort testing
Then test 1 RAM module at a time in the same DIMM each for 8 or more passes
When Memtest86+ has completed 8 or more passes take a picture and post an image and upload to your reply

MemTest86+ - Test RAM BSOD Tutorials
https://www.tenforum...6-test-ram.html

MemTest86 isn't the only memory test. There's actually lot's of others out there.
I also suggest Prime95's Blend test - as it will find memory errors that MemTest86+ won't
