I'd appreciate  a description of how these devices work. What exactly do they do? Do they all work the same way?

Is it that the Fire stick controls the desktop pc (by what link? -- between the Fire stick andthe router?) to receive the selected video over the Internet -- and then the router retransmits that video signal wirelessly to the TV set? Where can I find a good description of the process?

Thanks...... batpark

See the following link for a brief description of each device. They all work very similar it just depends on your preference.

You connect your preferred media streaming device to your TV or AV Receiver via HDMI or other methods if needed. Then you connect the device to your router via Wifi or Ethernet if available. Then you can use the remote of the device to control it. Hopefully this helps but let us know if any questions.
