Ok, I'm not going to lie. This wasn't the doing of some really old relative who doesn't understand how to work the mouse. This didn't happen because I had a legitimate reason. This happened because I am plain stupid when it comes to computers. I usually have no clue what I'm doing.

Anyway, on to the problem: I was trying to have a free sample listen of one of the songs on amazon.com (I think). Anyway, I clicked on the link that said something like, "Sample, Windows Media Player". Nothing happened. Then, I tried the realplayer link. Something started downloading, called "hurl.exe".

So what is the best thing to do when you are trying to play a song and it downloads an exe file? Probably delete it right? Which is what I should have done. But, being the dumb@$$ that I am, I decided to click on it, as I thought to myself, "I don't use Realplayer often: maybe this is some sort of crazy program that will allow me to play the file".

This random window pops up (you know the one where all the ms dos codes work with the black screen and the grey writing (the same thingy for C++)? I'm sorry; I don't know the name) and starts writing all this random gibberish, suddenly stopping halfway through and saying something like, "This program has to stop working now because your computer is a peice of s*** and the whosit can't whatchamacallit."

So, I do the first thing that comes to mind and try to delete it. It gives me that error thing where it's like, "This application thingy is being used by other programs. Please shutoff the programs, n00b." So, I go into safe mode and try to delete it. Doesn't work. Somebody help me out please!!

P.S. If you're wondering why I don't update Windows XP, it's because everytime I do it, it gives me this [bleep] error message saying either, "there are corrupt files in the Windows thing; please insert your Windows XP disc and replace these evil files with good files (I'll send you a screen shot if I can). Or when I try to install it, it says my cd key is invalid (I'm not buying another copy of Windows XP).

Your HijackThis seems to be outdated, I need you to update it:

• Close all windows and connect to the internet
• Open HijackThis
• Go to Config
• Go to Misc Tools
• Under Update Check, click Check for Update Online
• Confirm with OK
• Close HijackThis
• Re-Open it again and click Scan

• Please download Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4 then follow and print the instructions found HERE. For Ad-Aware 1.06 follow and print the instructions found HERE. Read More...
  
• Please Download the stand-alone version of CoolWebShredder , Extract it & run the program. Click the Check for Updates, download if there is available, then click Fix ->.
  
• Download and install Cleanup, then run.

Even the best antispyware programs are only able to remove about 70% of infections. Also, the line between spyware and trojans is getting blurred. You can never be too careful with these, I recommend at least one online scan.

Now, REBOOT in Normal Mode and have an On-line scan at this sites: Trend Micro or Panda Scan or BitDefender.

REBOOT again.

Post a log as a new topic in the Malware Removal Forum. It will get a better response there from the people most qualified to analyze logs.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
