Can I install a newer version of Windows

Best Answer phillpower2 , 12 August 2018 - 10:43 AM

Hello Denisejm, Windows 7 is ridiculously expensive and due to be phased out in the near future so I would rule that option out, Windows 10 or Linux would be what I would install if me.... Go to the full post »

Really not sure why you are having so much trouble with this tbh, you cant download and directly install Windows 10 on the XP computer but you should be able to use the download for use on another computer option, is this the option that you have been selecting.

If using a computer and not a mobile phone, please avoid adding multiple posts while waiting for us to reply to your last, edit your last post to include anything that you wish to add, this will ensure nothing gets overlooked which can sometimes happen if a thread has more than one page.

I don't know why I'm having so many problems with the downloaded Windows 10 programs but I think that I'll just buy the Windows 10 disk in a couple of weeks and hope for the best.  Thanks for all your help.  It was much appreciated.  I'll let you know how it works out.

Bit of a strange one this, good thing that it has only cost you your time and no financial outlay, if you can spare the time I would try the USB option again.

You are welcome and please do keep us posted

I downloaded Rufus 2.18 again and received the same error message:  Exception Processing Message c00000a3 Parameters 7c7df5f8 9cc8dcf8 737df5f8 737df58.  The thumb drive is in the USB port and shows up under My Computer.  In the event that Rufus did work, there's no Windows 10 .iso file to put on it.

Had no idea what that error meant so used Google, some suggestions at the link here

Have you checked in your downloads folder for the ISO.

I did a search for .iso on all drives and and the results produced 2 .iso files, neither one associated with Windows 10.  Trying to burn an .iso disk/thumb drive was worth a shot and I put a number of hours into it but I'm just going to wait a couple of weeks and buy a Windows 10 DVD. Thanks very much, though.  I'll let you know how it works with my hardware.

I just thought I'd update you on what's been going on.  I haven't bought the Windows 10 disk yet because I'm having problems with my adapter card.  I don't know if it's going bad.  I disconnected all the hard drives connected to it and added one back at a time and they worked for a few days and then one morning when I turn my pc on, they're weren't recognized by My Computer again.  This has happened several times.  I did a ChkDsk on all the hard drives and it found no problems with them.  I bought new data cables and swapped them out with the old ones, adding one drive at a time and, again they all showed up under My Computer for a few days and then stopped.  I unplugged then reseated the adapter card, making sure it was firmly seated, reconnected the hard drives.  They showed up under My Computer for a few days and then stopped again.

Do you have any ideas what could be going on?

Can you start a new topic for this issue please, going off topic is frowned upon as it can get confusing for folk that may read a thread looking for help themselves.

To help speed things up, can you post a Speccy url for us in your OP at the new topic.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.
