I think there are plenty of useful tools where you can login to IG account from PC and manage DM as well as read and reply.

For some reason Instagram doesn't allow to check DM in their desktop version. But there are some tools that allow you to do that. 

Official Instagram app for Windows 8 and 10 and some other utilities for Mac. 

Moreover I know there are some extensions for Chrome.
