Breaking formatting rules

In answer to your question, it depends on the application you are pasting the text into. Some will leave the formatting as is, and some will strip it out.
Try this. After pasting in your copied text, highlight the text you want in a different color, then select the text color on the menu. For example, here is some text in black:
now is the time for all good men...
and here it is with the "is the time" portion in white text (on a white background):
now is the time for all good men...
(Highlight that sentence to see the text that appears to be missing).
To do that, I hightlighted the "is the time" portion, then selected the Text Color pull-down menu (just to the right of "Size" above) and selected the white color. The "is the time" was then changed to white.
