I hope Msn can tell you something I have talked to a lot that I know that use Msn and none of them have had this problem. One of my ? I have do you use the verizon software that they gave you on the cd? or do you have it for windows to go on to your DSL? I think this info. on installing just MSN my be useful to other members that use verizon DSL. I'm going to post a new topic on how to setup verizon Dsl with out using there software but still using the MSN software.

I appreciate all the time you have taken to solve this problem. I still have the verizon with msn 8 dsl cd. I had to contact verizon and then they transferred me to the msn support team. No one ever contacted me about my issue even though I had a trouble support ticket. To make a long story short, the support team tech said that these intermittant issues were almost always being sytem resource problems. Sometimes I don't reboot the computer for a couple of days and running windows 98 your system resources tend to go down after awhile. Another thing could be that when I upgraded to messenger 6.1 from 6.0, it could be that 6.1 takes up more system resources. I mean, I could go and uninstall the software and reinstall it, but he just recommended turning off the computer at night. There is no where to find messenger 6.0 on the internet, but like I said, I think just rebooting the machine will probably work the best. Unfortunately system resources is a problem with Windows 98. I have bare bones in my start-up group with the the exception of GoBack and as that particular program has saved me from a virus twice already. I also like the program for retrieving files. I think the tech is right in his assessment because when I tried to upgrade to MSN 9, then the issue was worse. It was probably worse because MSN 9 would use more system resources. I think this issue would be best resolved with just rebooting the computer more often.

Consider adding more RAM to your system. It's relativley cheap, and usually quite easy.

I currently have 256 of Ram and my maximum amount is 384 which would mean that I could do one more upgrade of 128. I have 3 slots in my system, the first one holding 128 and the last two holding 64 each. I did update the computer from 128 to 256 and put a network card in. I should probably consider buying 128 more megabytes. I bought my last memory off of Gateway though and I really overpaid for it. I didn't make the same mistake with the network card. Gateway wanted $80.00 for the network card and I bought mine for $15.00. Gateway is currently pricing the memory at $89.99 for 128 MB. Even though they guarantee it for a year, I still feel like that is too much. I will probably upgrade the memory again.

You can find some cheaper prices on pricewatch.com, but beware some of the lowest priced vendors are kinda shady. Newegg is known for good pricing and great customer service.

P.S. The description of the memory you need is PC133, CAS 2. Check with a local computer store.

It says its compatible, but crucial's memory finder recommends a faster PC133 memory. Let me check further.
