After an interaction with Canon.com,  I wanted to verify whether my pc was as  infected as stated.  I tried to use the download Fastbar for 64 bit but it does not work.  It is apparently blocked by Avast or some other agent. The  tech support at Canon insists I immediately needed to purchase their solutions as services and many other objects were stopped or blocked.   How do I determine if this was just "used car salesman" tactics that Canon has resorted to or a definite damaged OS? (Win 7 PRO 64)

I used Trend Micro that was recommended to me.  No infections BUT I was advised that I have open ports that make my router insecure.  Do I do this through the router or the pc?   How do I know what to close?
