Greetings!

 

I am trying to play a CD from my HP laptop model G72 running Windows 10. As soon as the computer recognizes the CD a box pops up that says please wait while installing Blackberry desktop software. I do not have this software on my pc. Many years ago I did but uninstalled it a long time ago when I got rid of my BB tablet. Because this box pops up each time I cannot play a CD. Any suggestions?

 

Edit to say that I can play the CD via the VLC media player, but not Windows Media Player due to the Windows installer starting.

It sounds like you AutoPlay Settings are incorrectly configured.

Reset AutoPlay Settings in Control Panel

1. Open the Control Panel (icons view), and click/tap on the AutoPlay icon.

2. Scroll down to the bottom of AutoPlay, click/tap on the Reset all defaults button, and click/tap on Save.

Thank you for responding dmccoy. Unfortunately, that didn't fix the issue. As soon as Media Player opened the Windows installer box appeared and wants to install the Blackberry Desktop. I've deleted every reference to Blackberry I could find (except for a few files that wouldn't delete) and I'm still getting the issue.

 

Forgot to mention that I can play any files saved on the pc via WMP, but anything on a CD triggers the windows installer when I try to play it from the CD drive.

Okay, what is on the cD you are trying to play?

It is a soundtrack CD that contains 4 or 5 tracks.

What are extensions of the sound files? Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Windows Media Player?

I wasn't aware I could uninstall it, but I looked and it is not in the list of programs in the Control Panel Add/Remove.

 

I'll have to get the disc from my wife and insert it to find the file extensions of the tracks. She's unavailable now and I don't know what she did with it.

Step 1: Uninstall Windows Media Player. Open up Control Panel and type “windows features” into the search box, and then click on Turn Windows features on or off. ...

Step 2: Reboot. That is all.

Step 3: Turn Windows Media Player Back On if desired.

Unfortunately that did not work. When I insert the CD the Windows Installer launches and wants to load Blackberry desktop software. Since it cannot find the blackberry files the installer hangs up and must be shut down via the Task manager. Why would inserting a CD launch the Windows Installer? Why wouldn't it launch the CD instead?

But why are you in such a worry if you mentioned that you can play it using VLC player? 

Also why not to copy these tracks to computer and throw out this CD that makes you  feel nervous?
