I've plugged my tablet into my PC, no files showup in file manager.

I've done this with aleast 5 different PC's same result.

Thinking it must be tablet.Need to get communication so I can attempt

to root and get a modern version of android installed(I have 4.0.4 on it).

I've read countless articles on internet with same problem but never

find an answer. Any greatly apppreciated.

Alright! I'm going to list a few things that you can do to get the problem sorted. However, you need to tell me which ones you have tried and which ones you do not know how to do. That way, I'd be able to help you through each step.

  • Restart both PC and Tablet.
  • Use a different USB cable.
  • Clean the Micro USB port.
  • Connect the tablet as "storage".
  • Update the "MTP Driver".
  • Reinstall Android drivers.
  • Download Media Feature Pack - if you run Windows 10.
  • Connect USB as "Mass Storage".
  • Turn on USB Debugging.

Did step 1,2,3

step 4 couldn't find anywhere to connect as storage.

Updated MTP on win8.1 do I have to update on tablet?

As far as Android drivers, I set it to original factory reset on tablet.

Are there drivers for tab and pc MTP and Android?

Seems like you've done everything correctly. What's the name of the tablet?

To connect as Mass Storage:

  1. Go to Settings > More Settings.
  2. Tap on USB utilities and then on Connect Storage to PC.
  3. Tap on Connect Storage to PC and then on Turn on USB storage.
  4. Wait until it installs the needed drivers.
  5. On your PC, open up My Computer and see if your Android appears as a Windows volume.
