Hi Excal, et al. *G*

Per your advice, I am reposting this.

My Norton found a Trojan named "skiller.exe" and the repair failed.
It is quarantined.
How can I get rid of it completely?

Anyone have any suggestions?

I also did a Hijack this file. I don't think it helps but if you could tell me what to get rid of out of it, that would be appreciataed. Thanks!

Hi renienne, welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

You have quite a load of bad stuff in that log of yours. The first thing we have to do is to get rid of some really nasty programs.

1. I want you to UNINSTALL the following programs through the ADD/REMOVE feature of your Control Panel:

BullEye Network
ISTservice
180Solutions

2. Now, using Windows Explorer, I need you to DELETE the following folder(s) and all their content:

C:\Program Files\BullesEye Network
C:\Program Files\180Solutions
C:\Program Files\ISTService

3. REBOOT your system.

4. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren

Hi renienne,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{EA756889-2338-43DB-8F07-D1CA6FB9C90D} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: YourSiteBar - {86227D9C-0EFE-4f8a-AA55-30386A3F5686} - C:\Program Files\YourSiteBar\ysb.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sais] c:\program files\180solutions\sais.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ejifkjgl] C:\WINDOWS\ejifkjgl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lm9t7af2] C:\WINDOWS\System32\lm9t7af2.exe
O9 - Extra button: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {8AF21577-E11A-4DA1-894E-8767EC28D289} - (no file) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {8AF21577-E11A-4DA1-894E-8767EC28D289} - (no file) (HKCU)
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://ny.contentmatch.net (HKLM)
O16 - DPF: {42F2C9BA-614F-47C0-B3E3-ECFD34EED658} (Installer Class) - http://www.ysbweb.co...ysb_1002952.cab

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if they are present):

FILES

C:\WINDOWS\ejifkjgl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\lm9t7af2.exe
ALCXMNTR.EXE

FOLDERS (with all their content)

c:\program files\180solutions
C:\Program Files\YourSiteBar

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren

Ok...done.
I did not find the ejifkjgl.exe file but I did everything else. I have not rehidden the files either......

How do I know which of these files on hijack are keepers? Is this just a learning thing? Thank you for ALL your help.

Will this also get rid of the trojan I have? (skiller.exe) per Norton?

Congratulations, your new log shows that your SYSTEM IS CLEAN

There are a few things you must do once you are completely clean:

1. Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files from the backup that Windows makes as no program is able to clean those files:

TO DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
1. Right-click "My Computer", and then left click "Properties".
2. Left click on "System Restore Tab"
3. Check box beside "Turn Off System Restore"
4. Left click on "Apply"

TO ENABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
1.Remove check mark from "Turn Off System Restore"
2.Click on "Apply"

2. Cleanup the leftovers. Download CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.

3. Finally, Re-hide your System Files and Folders to prevent any future accidents.

To answer your questions:

1. There are schools on the Net where you are taught how to do this. Geeks to Go has one, SWI, TC and Malware Removal are others.

2. This may not remove the Trojan is Quaranteen, if that is where it is. If it is there, then this is no problem. Try Norton and get back to me.

Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:

Make sure you keep your Windows OS current by visiting Windows update
regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. With out these you are leaving the backdoor open.

I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? (My Favorite)

Regards,

Trevuren

Thank you VERY much. It looks like everything is working well and I can't find that trojan, so you must have gotten rid of that, too!
I appreciate all the time you spent on my problem. I see I have a lot to learn.
Thanks again.
Rennie!
