I'm writing this post on my new computer!  It's working great.  I'm so used to my old computer crashing, that I'm sitting here still being struck with terror every time something takes more than a millisecond.  Hopefully, I'll get over that soon.

 

I haven't installed any of my hdds, printer, speaker system yet but the internet/installing programs/accessing external hdds/etc are working great.  I think I'm going to be very happy with it.

 

Thanks again for all your help with trying to fix my old computer and helping me pick my new one.  Your assistance was very much appreciated.

That is great news ad am pleased that you are a happy camper.

It's been enjoyable giving you a hand.

 

More nagging.   I don't use, nor recommend ccCleaner.   It has a bad habit of removing shared files like dlls.   Weeks later a application calls for a file and the computer crashes, "a file is missing and the program needs to close" vor similar.

There is never a need to "clean" the registry.   Obsolete keys just sit there, dong nothing and don't impact performance; sorry, my favourate winge.   I only use Rivo Uninstaller, which has good cleanup tools, but even then you should be careful when using it.

 

Should you wish to, you can create a partition on the first drive you install and move some or all your user  folder to it from the C: drive.   I do it for Documents and Videos.

I had a problem with getting sound but I found the correct settings and it's working good now.

 

The pc is very fast.  It boots up in about 35 seconds.  I'm very happy with it.

I always find configuring the sound a pain, not only do you have to get the ports connections right, you then always seem to mess about with the software.

As you are going OK, I will mark the topic up as resolved; but you can still carry on posting if you have issues. .

I need a daisy chain to connect 2 of the hdds that I installed in the case.  The PSU that I chose is a 640W Corsair CX650 80 Plus Certified.  I tried several (used and new) "4pin MOLEX Male to (4) 15pin SATA II Female Power Cable" daisy chains but I had to push very hard to get it connected to the molex connector in the case and the 2 hdds aren't showing up in My Computer.  I lined up the square corners and the rounded corners of the molex connectors properly.

I know that the hdds are good because I just moved files off of them (using an external USB enclosure) and onto 2 bigger hdds that I installed yesterday.  I connected the bigger hdds using the power connectors at the bottom of the case and the 2 SATA connectors at the bottom of the mobo (ASUS TUF Z390 Pro Gaming).  The 2 power connectors at the top of the case are too short to connect to the 2 hdds that I installed tonight even though I installed them as high up as possible. I connected them to SATA ports SATA6G_5 and SATA6G_6 (#8) on the mobo schematic.

 

Can you give me a link to a daisy chain that will work with this PSU or let me know if I'm doing something wrong?

I can see no reason for that connector not to work, though, you should not have to struggle or use excessive force  to push them together.

If you are not using any other devices using P4 Molex, you will need to test the line.

Get a molex to 3 pin fan connect, disconnect your rear fan and test both lines from the PSU.

I'm not using any other devices for the 4pin molex so I tried to get the molex ends to connect again.  I had to push very hard and wiggle the connectors to get the pins lined up with the female end.  The fit is extremely tight, much tighter than with my old pc.  But I finally got them together and connected a hdd to it and it was recognized in My Computer and Disk Management.  I connected the second hdd and had the same success.  I think that, last night, the two ends weren't completely connected because I was concerned that using the force needed might break something.  Since finding out that there aren't different sized molex connectors for different PSUs, it gave me the incentive to get the two ends connected.  It's working very well now.

This isn't the kind of thing that I will do.  Connecting hdds is one thing but the pc is solid because it was put together by a tech who knew what he was doing.  I'll leave his handiwork alone.  I even hated to pull out the molex connector that he had so nicely tucked in but that had to be done.  The case is now closed up and I'm looking forward to leaving it that way for a very long time.  It's so quiet that no one could tell that it's on.  I really like it.

Perhaps, if the adaptor was very cheap, or old, the plug was just a fraction oversized, making it tough to push together; but mute now.
