I wanted to remove Avast.   I used Avast Clear  and have run it four times,     Avast is still there somewhere.  Outside of going into the registry to look for it, is there a way once and for all to eradicate it?

Did you run AvastClear.exe in Windows' "Safe mode"?

You could try re-installing Avast, and then remove it using RevoUninstaller ... https://www.revounin...e_download.html.... (I'd use the Free Portable version)

Extract the file (it's zipped) and then click on RevoUPort.exe to launch it. Click on the Uninstall tab, then select Avast from the list of programs displayed. Click Uninstall to start the uninstall.

When you uninstall Using Revo, when it finishes the Uninstall it runs a scan of your system, and will find any remnants which it will then offer you the choice to remove. There are 3 scan options ... safe, moderate, and advanced ... choose the one you want to use.

Moderate will probably be adequate to "safely" find most remnants and is usually the default setting, but if you want to ensure that everything is removed then use Advanced.

If you do, be aware that it's up to you to check that everything found is actually related to Avast, and when prompted to delete you should not check anything for deletion that you are not entirely sure of.

I used Revo Pro as a first try to remove Avast as I was not aware of Avast Clean.   I used Kaspersky free scan as the error message indicated the possible existence of a virus but that comes up clean.  Still Kaspersky will not install.

OK, then please do the following ....

Dependant on whether you have a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows ....

  • Download FRST to your Desktop.
  • Download FRST64 to your Desktop.
  • Double click Frst.exe or Frst64.exe to launch it.
  • FRST will start to run.
  • When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.
  • Copy/Paste or Type the following line into the Search: box.

Avast;Alwil;AswWeb;AdBlocker;AshServ;Ashweb;AshmaiSv

  • Press the Search Registry button.
  • When finished searching a log will open on your Desktop ... Search.txt
  • Please post it in your next reply.

Please do not try to remove anything that is found by the Search yourself, I've deliberately used some "vague" search terms, so some of the items found by the search may not be related to Avast, and may do damage if removed.

Once I've had a chance to look over the Search results, I don't make any promises, but I should hopefully be able to create a "fix" for you that will remove what needs to be removed.

PS.  Once you have posted your Search results, please do not run any fixes that may be proposed by any other well meaning member.  There are a number of safequards that I will include with any "fix" that I propose, that others may not apply.
