Ouch, looks like you will need a Windows 10 ISO, preferably one burned to disk, did you get chance to check your Linux USB device on another computer.

 

Unlikely that it would work but did you try the SFC command.

I never did get to check my Linux USB device on another computer.  I was remote and was using my brother's laptop so I didn't want to take over his computer.  And, I did not try the SFC command because I thought the previous command had to work first.  I'm back home now using an old laptop now and my brother-in-law (Windows Engineer) has my HP laptop.  He's running diagnostics on it since that's his area of expertise and he physically has the laptop.  He will let me know if I should go ahead and purchase another laptop (I'm thinking so) or if he can temporarily fix it until I catch a sale.

 

Thank you very much for your help.  Even though I didn't get it fixed, I learned a lot!!!

My 2 cents worth...

 

About 5 years ago an acquaintance ran into financial trouble.  He had a fairly new HP Envy 15.6" Laptop he used to secure a loan from me.  At the time, the exact laptop was listed on Amazon for $1699.00.  I knew I couldn't go wrong as the loan was for far less.  I was excited to try it out as I had never used a laptop for more than a few minutes when troubleshooting for a friend.  I know it is not exactly what you have, but is similar in setup. Came with: AMD A10-4600M 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Processor - 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM - 750 GB Hard Drive - 15.6-inch Display - Windows 8 64-bit Edition & Beats Audio Quad Speakers and a Subwoofer. 

 

I can feel the pain you are going through.  This thing was nothing but trouble.  Power cord melted where it plugs in, screen went out, keyboard went out, hard drive failed & could not get another to work.  I couldn't believe that such an expensive computer was nothing but junk. I ended up with it b/c the loan wasn't repaid & I salvaged some parts off it & trashed it. So happy to see it go! That was my first experience with HP & it also was my last.

I live about 100 miles from him.  When I got back into town, I just left it with him and that night he started running diagnostics, which didn't look too good.  But, yesterday, he texted me for my password and then sent me a pic of it up and running---said it was alive!  I asked was he able to navigate to sites and access Windows Explorer.  He said "of course" it's good to go and that he's able to see the last files that I was talking about.  I'm not sure of all the details.  I'll find out when I go up for a visit on Father's Day.

EVERY laptop should last at least 36 months, imo.  Technical gadgets are too expensive to become throw-away gadgets after a year or 18 months of use. 

 

When I was dealing with all the HP Laptop problems, the only source I sought for help was HP Assistant.  I now wonder if I had sought help elsewhere if I could have solved the laptop issues & still be using it.  Such a nice laptop to turn out to be nothing more that junk. 

 

When contemplating buying a new tech item, I read the most recent online reviews that turn up in Google search.  There are a lot of reputable sites that list the TOP 10, TOP 16, etc.  These often state that every item being reviewed has been tested by the reviewers.  These are the reviews I pay particular attention to.  

 

I also leave reviews (good & bad) for items I have purchased, as I feel this helps others to steer away from the junk.  I do know that after my experience with HP & their supposedly high-end laptop, they will be on the bottom of the list of brands for me.
