Avast scan told me I have an open port allowing the world to see everything I do, it sent me to a microsoft page, I couldn't understand a word on it. I got to a page of geeks to go and all I had to do was sign in, it looked like the answer was there. Once I signed in I could not find that page again. Some were saying I didn't want the port 80 closed or 443, I know nothing about ports. Can you tell me what I need to do? Thanks!

Port 80 is the port number assigned to commonly used internet communication protocol, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). It is the port from which a computer sends and receives Web client-based communication and messages from a Web server and is used to send and receive HTML pages or data.


Port 80 is one of the most commonly used port numbers in the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) suite. Any Web/HTTP client, such as a Web browser, uses port 80 to send and receive requested Web pages from a HTTP server. It manages all HTTP-based requests that originate from a computer, regardless of the number of requests and initiating Web clients. Similarly, the HTTP server responds to all requests received at port 80.

It appears you need to nothing except to tell Avast to stop barking about port 80.
