I don't recommend:  "Compress this drive to save disk space."

This will save some space but it breaks some things.

If you want to see what is using your drive:WinDirStat.

http://download.cnet...4-10614593.html

Click on the left Download Now (directly under WinDirStat.

Save the file.  Run the installer. (Win 7+ or Vista probably need to right click and run as admin.)

Uncheck all three foistware boxes before allowing it to install.  Once it is running it will show you your drives.  Click on C:\ and then OK.

It will take a while but when it finishes it should tell you what is using the hard drive with the biggest folders at the top of the list.  You can open the folders by clicking on the + in front of the folder.

OK, I just did that and explored my C drive. Everything looks OK to me. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Is there something I should be looking for?

Just where the most files are and what they are.  Normally  Users  is the heavy hitter so you can click on the + in front of Users and It will show you your login as well as Public and Default and any other users you may have.  Probably your login is the biggest so click on its + and it will show you more details.  You can click on the + in front of the biggest until you get down to the individual files.  Here is an example from my PC:

WinDir.JPG

My biggest files are some long forgotten full length movie videos leftover from when I used the PC as a DVR.  (If I wanted to clean them up I could select the file and do Shift + Delete which deletes them completely or Delete which sends them to the recycle bin)  I also have a lot of pictures and oddly enough my desktop is a big hitter.  (I  have my desktop set as the Download destination and then I have a folder on my desktop called Junk where I shove all of the downloaded stuff after I've finished with it plus anything I upload like the attachment to this post.  If I were short on space I would go in and remove some of the larger files like the downloaded Open Office installation files.  Alternatively I could open up File Explorer and move the files from my C: to one of my USB attached harddrives instead of deleting them.

My biggest file is my music file, which is understandable--I have my entire library on my computer. Everything else looks normal.

I was surprised/not surprised to see Garmin taking up so much space, but it's the map download. (I don't own a car, but when I rent one or go somewhere with a friend's car, it's helpful to bring along my Garmin GPS. Newer cars usually have them, but the older ones don't, and I don't really like using my phone for that. The Garmin is so easy. If I ever need space, I can get rid of that download.)

But otherwise, everything looks good. I followed most of your closing instructions, but I haven't deleted FARBAR yet in case you wanted to see one last scan and/or needed me to do anything else.

A few questions, if you have the time:

(1) I noticed you don't like Hitman Pro. I used it for a couple of years, but got irritated with it and stopped. I was curious what your take on it was.
(2) If I have future problems with my PC, would it be OK to contact you again directly via Geeks to Go? (If this is inappropriate for asking, please accept my apology.) You just now know my computer so well, lol. :) However, if I should just follow the usual procedure, that's fine. It has been my experience that all the techs here are great.
(3) I would like to give you a top rating and leave comments on how much you helped me--where do I do that on the G2G site?

Please let me know if there's anything else I need to do, or if there's anything else you need to see.

THANK YOU AGAIN!!

If you have already updated the Garmin using that download there is no need to keep it.

You can remove Farber now.

1.  Hitman Pro has a tendency with certain malware to leave the system unbootable plus its uninstall program leaves a driver that is difficult to remove.

2. You can just reply to this post if you like.  I don't normally lock posts when done.  If it gets locked just PM me.

3.  I'm not really sure.  Try clicking on my picture.  That should take you to my profile.  I see Reputation as a menu item.
