I will be doing a Windows 10 build soon. I have heard that Microsoft still allows you to use a Windows 7 key from an old install to get Windows 10 to activate. Now I bought an OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium a while back and am looking to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. If I put in my Windows 7 key will it only give me the option to go to Windows 10 Home? Or will I be able to use it to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro as well?

 

If it won't i'm totally fine with using a site like Kinguin.net to purchase a Windows 10 Pro key, just want to know what to expect. I already made a flash drive with Windows 10 on it.

Indeed, Win7 Home will upgrade to Win10 Home.

 

That being said, once you've done that upgrade, you can still go pro if you purchase a license for same (and you can upgrade from Home to Pro in Windows 10 itself:  Settings, Update & Security, Activation Pane, Change product key link).   Recycled licenses for Windows 10 Pro are available for a song on eBay these days.

@nemesis Yes, it worked for me, able to install windows 10 just fine, gave me the home version. Apologies for the late reply, old psu wasnt enough for new system so gotta order a new one.

The install I made with the flash drive already had the latest updates, but besides the disappointingly broken HDR implementation, 1903 seems just fine. Why do you think I shouldn’t have installed it?

Very few people have been having problems with 1903.  I would not hesitate to apply that feature update at this juncture.

 

Like you've experienced, there may be an annoying bug or two depending on one's hardware, but they're not show stoppers.

Well, unfortunately I have been having some serious issues on my build. I keep getting a blue screen that says "critical structure corruption". So annoying! I did memtest not too long ago on all my hardware and things check out just fine. I disabled the momentum cache boost on my m.2 drive, but unfortunately the updater program crashed during a firmware update to the drive. I fear that may have messed up the drive a bit, even though it registers as having the new firmware. If anyone has any suggestions that would be appreciated.
