Im sure everyones seen these keyboards online. Our old one stopped working completely after about half a year of use. So we ordered a new one of the same model, from the same seller on Amazon. Unfortunately I connected the new usb dongle receiver and yet after saying everything was correctly installed, it wont work right.

How so?

Well the keyboard works fine but the trackpad doesnt. I can right click, and left click but I cannot move the pointer whatsoever. The cursor just doesnt move. I thought it might be a Windows 7 update that applied automatically and installed a Synaptics driver/mouse software on our laptop pretty much the day after the old controller ruined. It wasnt there before... and it doesnt list the wireless trackpad as a device either, yet it looks like Device Manager says all its generic drivers are installed.

Its been a couple of weeks now... weve been really busy with a three year old. However Ive tried all of the following:

- Using System Restore points all the way to the first one listed
- Uninstalling the unfortunately self installed Synaptics Driver + software completely
- Full system scan with Eset antivirus
- Malware and Spyware scans
- Carefully analyzing Device Manager for issues

I mean Ive tried it all and this would typically be a simple fix. [bleep] Im not a rookie at this Ill desolder and solder a new [bleep] capacitor on a board while installing new board drivers on another hunting them down online... geez I mean I even fixed a third party external drive before by somehow finding its firmware on some Thai site after a sever brownout rendered it useless.

But this has me stressed and confused. Ive spent countless hours trying to figure out a solution. Please brothers (and sisters), help me out here.

Sincerely
Long time GeeksToGo user,

Thanks!

P.s.
The built in laptop trackpad has always worked and still does. Right now I have the laptop using the oldest restore point possible prior to setting up the new wireless device.

Sounds like a defective trackpad. Might try returning it for a replacement.

Got a third remote in the mail. When I insert the usb dongle for the new one, it just connects/disconnects the usb dongle on its own infinitely. I have to manually remove it in the physical form.

I have no idea whats going on... how could it be that 3 wireless controllers seize to work?

Side note - I have some backing up to do on that laptop and Im a little afraid to connect a usb hdd to it in case it tries to do something funny to the external.

Thoughts on getting the controller to work? Ive got back pain from getting up so many times to switch things.

If the new one also fails on another computer then you know it's bad. If not, could definitely be a problem with the USB port(s).

If it is the USB port(s), inspect the inside of each port to make absolutely sure that the contacts have not come loose or are otherwise damaged.

FWIW, I have witnessed a computer die instantly because of a USB port. The PC was sitting on the floor next to the desk leg in a secretary's office. A USB flash drive was sticking out of a USB port on the front of the PC down near the floor. A mechanic came in and accidentally bumped that USB flash drive with his boot and instantly Pop! Bang! Snap! smoke and a completely silent PC. Come to find out it had taken out the PSU (Bestec), motherboard and RAM. Fortunately, it hadn't damaged anything on the hard drive so I had her back in business in a couple of days.
