I have been receiving fake emails claiming to be from 2 different friends - the emails have their names (separately) beside 'from'.

However, when I click on 'properties' I see unknown email addresses.

Subject 'for all'.

"Hope you are well. Just wanted to share something with you"

There is a link, probably to a virus / malware.

What's going on please?

Seems someone is accessing my mail account?

What should I do other than changing my password please?

Any help will be appreciated.

The software that most Spammers/Scammers use allow them to insert anyone's name and/or email address in the From field. It's called spoofing, (lying).

But they know / have used 2 of my friends names - how?

I can only think they have accessed my mail account.

I need to know what to do about this other than changing my password.

Maybe they know you. Or of you. Through social media maybe. Or through other friends. Or from browsing through your phone, your family's or friends phones, you computer, your family's or friends computers. Maybe they have access to your phone/computer/email. I don't know. There are gadzillions of possibilities. If they have access to your stuff, the easy way to stop that is to simply change the password(s). Other than that, I suppose you could shoot everyone on the planet. <shrug>

I don't have a mobile phone. No-one else shares my landline.

No-one else has access to my computer.

They could only get to know these particular names through accessing my mail account............and how would they know my password to do that.........

Feel I am being spied on!

There was a major TalkTalk cyber attack some time ago - 22nd May 2019 "Personal details for 4545 TalkTalk customers stolen during a 2015 data breach are accessible online."

After investigation I was informed in writing that it hadn't involved my personal details.
