I've bought a new monitor and hooked it up to my old PC, but the max resolution I can get it to display using the operation system setting is 1920x1080 60hz, but it does not fill the entire screen. The specs for the graphics card says it should display a larger resolution. Can anyone help?

Details

Monitor - Dell U2417H

Mobo - A55BM-K

Graphics - AMD Radeon HD 7480D

          Max Res - 2560x1600 @ 60Hz
          D-sub - 1920x1600 @ 60hz

RAM - 8GB

Now the monitor has HDMI, DP and mDP ports and the graphics vga and DVI-D(Dual Link). I've connected them using a DVI-D(Single Link) to HDMI cable.

Its my dads pc so I will try that, but I don't get out there all that often. Would there be anything I could try if that does not work. Thinking ahead to try and reduce the back and forth visits.

I'm sorry but I do not have any other ideas after trying this. I have seen this work for more then several people.

Thanks

Would I have any luck using a DVI to DP cable? Reseach seems in to indicate they only work if the monitor has the DVI port not the PC
