Hi Forum.  My employer just gave me a new iPhone.  Yeah and Uh oh!  So, I agreed and then took the new phone home and synced it with my old phone. Then I was asked to follow some steps to download the MDM from them. Questions arose AFTER I downloaded the MDM stuff.  So, I am hoping you can answer some of my questions.  What can an MDM see? What can't it see?  Can it see passwords to my accounts or apps? Are hidden apps visible to the MDM? Those things that I said about the boss...might come back to hurt me.

depends on the MDM, in general they won't "see" passwords to apps (like facebook or whatever), though, depending on the MDM and the settings, they COULD have a keylogging function to track what you type (which could be used to gather passwords).

 

that said, if it's your company's device, then they have the right to whatever is on the phone. if you're worried about what you do on a COMPANY owned device, then you shouldn't be doing those things on a company owned device (and, most likely shouldn't have synced anything from your PERSONALLY owned device to the company owned device).

 

I work in corporate IT, and our policies specifically dictate what we do/do not own on company owned devices (hint: we own everything that happens on the device, even if it's personal activity.) your company should have some form of mobile device policy (that you should have been given before you got the device).

 

TL;DR, the MDM software can see whatever it's capable and configured to see, it's a company owned device, so you don't really have a choice in the matter as long as you use the company owned device

Thanks for the feedback. It's not that I'm panicked about it but when I made the change from my personal phone to the new company [hone I synced them before I knew what I had done. I'm bummed that my personal life and that of y girlfriend is at their fingertips.  I just found this list on settings:

Erase all data

lock device

list config profiles

list provisioning details

add/remove config details

list device info

list network info

list installed applications. (Can they see my passwords, photos and messages?)

install and remove applications

list restriction info

list security info

apply settings
