I was able to install Windows 3.0 on Virtualbox but can't figure out a way to add a program that is an .iso file on cd.

I tried "insert guest additions CD image" and got error "the virtualbox guest additions do not appear to be available on this virtual machine and shared folders cannot be used".

Can anyone help on how to add the program.

I have VirtualBox on a Linux box, so it might be a bit different.

There are a couple of ways to access it. The first thing to do is to create a virtual CD drive. Then you need to either mount the host drive (from the top menu bar) and access CD or you can put the ISO in the proper directory and mount the ISO file. The directory is under the structure of virtualbox files and there should be a directory called iso where the files are normally located, but that can vary depending on the version and any changes which might have been made.

You should also download and install the guest additions, which is done the same way.

Can you please give me step by step instructions because I don't know what you mean. As I mentioned, I tried "insert guest additions CD image"(Devices--->Insert guest additions CD image) and got error as described.

I put the ISO file that has program in the same folder in Virtualbox VMs where Windows 3.0 VDI is stored and tried to mount?? (Devices-->Optical Drives --->Choose disk image )

I also tried "shared folders"

Can problems be attributed to this being dos and windows 3.0? I installed dos and win 3 from VDI  (http://virtualdiskim...irtualbox.html)

I tried "insert guest additions CD image" and got error

Under "storage", do you have a CD/DVD drive created? If you don't have a device created, you can't mount anything.

What does it show under Devices/CD/DVD devices at the top of the window?

You should be able to mount a CD/DVD image or use the host drive regardless of the operating system.

Go to the VirtualBox control window and select the Virtual machine, then click on settings, then click on storage. What does the storage tree show?

Update - I switched to vmware and got win95. It works but I haven't figured out a way to print from an app on the win95 guest. Any ideas? I think I need to find a win 95 printer driver but don't know how to get a driver from my pc to win95 vm.

vmware does not support virtual printers for win 95
