Hello,

 

Wondering if anyone can help with this. I have been trying to setup a point to point wireless outdoor network and have used 2 different brands, both don't work.

I setup both as instructed, setup the master and slave units, then pair them. Add a static IP address for the remote end (IPv4) and they do communicate because I can access the admin page on the remote end. However no internet access. I have accessed the wireless signal that is broadcast by the master from my phone and it works fine - I do get internet access. Do i don't know what is going on. Could this be to do with the router? It is a BT home hub 5 and says that it does not support IPv6?

What is the IPv4 address on the master?  What is the Default Gateway on the Remote?  Should be the same.

I imagine its automatically assigned or DCHP?? as I haven't set it

The remote unit needs to have its default gateway set to the IP address of the Master.  If you set the IP address on the remote manually then you also need to set the default gateway address manually.  I am talking about the IP address of the master that is on the LAN not the connection to the Internet.  Say the Master is 192.168.0.1 you set the slave to 192.168.0.50 (mask 255.255.255.0) and give it a default gateway address of 192.168.0.1.  When the remote sees a packet destined for the Internet (anything that is not 192.168.0.x) then it will forward the packet to the default gateway.  If you let the remote provide addresses to the devices connected to it so it acts as a true router then you need to have it assign addresses on a different network say 192.168.1.x You will also have to have a static route on the master so that it knows that all packets to the remote router's network should be forwarded to 192.168.0.50

 

Tell me what make and model numbers you are using and what IP addresses are in use on each.  Also is DHCP enabled on each?  What instructions are you trying to follow?

It says nothing about setting up a default gateway so I can't imagine that's the issue. Are you sure this is not an IPv6 issue. Im not quite sure how I would manually change the IP address of the master unit. For the remote I have set the IP as instructed: 192.168.188.10

Positive that IPv6 is not the issue.

 

 

If you have the ip address set per the instructions you are just going to be able to talk to the remote and nothing else except perhaps the Master which is probably 192.168.188.254.  If you want the PC that you set to 192.168.188.10 to have Internet access you will need to give it a Default gateway of 192.168.188.253 (or maybe 254)  Alternatively you can reset it to automatically get an IP address per Step 7

I have found the IP address of the unit and have done what you said and it makes no difference. If I needed to do this it would have been in the instructions. I do believe this is a router/broadband issue possibly to do with IPv6 not being supported.

Do you have one or two of the APs?

 

The instructions are a bit confusing.  Appears to me that for a point to point connection with two AP's you stop after setting the SSID & password and do not do anything labeled "Setting up as a Repeater"  If you do it won't work for the point to point.

 

You might read through the reviews on the Amazon page.  There are quite a few comments on problems with the instructions in the ratings and suggestions for improvement.

 

 

I repeat IPv6 is not used so not important.

I am completely lost then. This is the second brand I have used and non of them say anything about setting the default gateway and have even spoken to technical support of the solwise units and they have no idea.

That's correct for the instructions. I have heard from another source that IPv6 might be required https://www.cnet.com...s=1576090107814. I am just a layman that is tech savvy so its just my only guess right now.

Please explain your setup.  Do you have one router and two APs or one router and one AP?

Something like that, yes. I think it shows in the instructions.

Should be exactly like that.  Make sure you connect a LAN port on the router to the WLAN port on the APmaster.  Many people assume the WLAN port on the APmaster should connect to a WLAN port on the Router but it won't work that way.
