I have a Dell latitude laptop with a built in usb port on the back.

I have purchased a fan for it(the type you place underneath) when I plug the fan power into the usb the power light comes on but no other response from the fan ... ie it doesnt come on.

I plugged it in to another computer and the fan does work ... how do I switch my usb to power this device?

I have used the port in the past to hook up my dsl line to it, if that helps.

thanks for your help

You may have an enable USB port setting in the Setup which you can enter during the boot up phase by pressing the right key?? Since laptops are battery powered it may have been disabled to reduce current drain..

I just reread you post. Will the fan work on 5v?
