Indeed, I think I've done a fine job at overcomplicating this next step in an effort to do as much on my own here. While going through the list of programs, two things became apparent. Firstly, there were too many programs that I wasn't sure whether I needed or not, or what they even were. This lead to a lot of Googling to identify many of these programs. Secondly, it became apparent that there were still several programs that need/needed to be uninstalled still. There are others still that I'm on the fence about, but I'm forcing myself to make decisions on them all in this final go-round. A few specific questions for you while I work further at this:

1. Is it safe to delete entries in Autoruns that are highlighted yellow as dead links (file not found links), especially the ones that I can identify and know with certainly are not needed anymore/junk?

2. I actually do use WinRAR from time to time still. Not frequently, but it does happen that I need to extract a .rar or .zip file. This is common while I'm experimenting with gaming mods. Nevertheless, if WinRAR is a security risk, or a problematic program for one reason or another, I'm happy to uninstall and proceed without it. Another relic of my old habit days, haha.

Apologies for the delay getting back to you, not been around for a couple of days  :(

In answer to your questions, not all File not found entries can be deleted but if you are 100% certain that you know what something is you can delete it, anything related to Microsoft or your drivers you should leave well alone.

The latest versions of WinRAR were ok if downloaded from the official source but too may links took folk to cracked versions that were full of malware, its pretty much obsolete these days.

Ok, I think I've done as much clean-up as I can on my own. It was satisfying. I'll leave the newest Speccy and Autoruns logs below.

There does seem to be a bit of an improvement of the boot-up sequence, but it is still noticeably strained more than it should be. I decided to open up the task manager and monitor the processes. The offending process is unquestionably Service Host: SysMain.

You have high memory usage for a computer that is not under any load;

Physical Memory
Memory Usage: 44 %

You should disable all non important programs in Autoruns, Adobe, CCleaner, Logitech Download Assistant, Skysoft etc, the only things that should not be disabled are Windows and driver entries, ideally no third party programs should be set to load on boot as they will slow down boot times.

- Could it be because I only have 8 GB of memory? I've often wondered if it would be a worthwhile investment to double that.

- All of the programs you mentioned above are indeed disabled on startup. Only the Google Update Core and Windows Security notification icon are enabled. I can disable them as well if you think so.I also wonder if the Logitech Download Assistant (associated with my mouse is my best guess) and the iSkysoft Helper could be deleted entirely?

- I have noticed for a while now that when I close Chrome (my primary browser), my memory usage gets cut in half. Chrome is somehow a major offender on my system for memory hogging right now.

Cheers again!

There is nothing wrong with the RAM other than it is not the fastest that is compatible with your CPU and MB, when built DDR3 1600MHz RAM should have been used as opposed to the present 1333MHz RAM which btw is shown to be working as it should;

RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24) what this means, 2 X 666MHz which = 1332MHz.

Google should not be allowed to run on boot but as previously advised anything to do with Windows and drivers should be.

Chrome can suffer from memory leaks, as a temporary measure, uninstall Chrome and keep Edge as the browser, even if you do not use it, see how things go for an hour or so.

Something that I did notice in Speccy;

Power Profile
Active power scheme: High performance

I suggest is that you change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, High Performance is a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues and the setting should only be used for gaming type notebooks that have a discrete GPU that needs the extra power.

Success!

I disabled the Google Core Updater from Startup and changed the power plan from performance over to balanced. I also removed a few extensions from Chrome to slim it down some.

The overall effect was prominent on reboot. The computer "settled down" as it were in a reasonable manner, rather than straining itself to the max for a prolonged time after reboot. The most taxing process was still unquestionably "Service Host: SysMain", but seemed to do its thing in a "normal" fashion for the first time in dare I say years, if not months. Chrome also seems to use 4-8% less memory than before after removing a few extensions. It may still be leaking memory, but it isn't noticeably intrusive or taxing as it once was.

I'm content with where things stand on this issue. If you think we are good to proceed, I'm ready to tackle the other issue of losing my internet connection on every reboot.

Thanks again! This has been thus far very helpful and informative.

Did you do this, the purpose for doing so was twofold, checking for both a memory leak and how the internet connection performed without Chrome being present at all, a plug/extension within Chrome could be causing connectivity problems.

You are welcome  :)

Alright, I finally got around to it last night. The results weren't great, unfortunately. After uninstalling Chrome, I rebooted. Upon reboot, it was evident that the hard disk was spinning wildly out of control again. Once again, the task manager would indicate that "Service Host:SysMain" is the culprit. Furthermore, the internet connectivity issue wasn't resolved, that is, upon reboot, I still had to reset the router (always a hard reset, unplugging the power, waiting for 10 seconds and then plugging the power back in). To make matters even worse, I lost sound on reboot this time as well. Strangely, that problem was solved simply by moving my DAC into another USB port. The previous USB port that the DAC was in read a USB key fine when I tried, so I'm not entirely sure why it didn't want to read the DAC anymore. It could be a hardware/port issue, but I'm not certain. I have since reinstalled Chrome, and that is where things stand.

Going forward, how about we focus on the internet connectivity issue. I can deal with the service host:sysmain process on my own. There are enough fixes out there for it.

Now even after I reboot the router the internet doesn't always come back. No idea what's going on at this point. Very frustrating.
