Hello,

 

Long time member/lurker first time poster:-)

 

I need assistance please

 

What I am looking to do is move data and applications over to my new laptop...

 

The issues are below

 

My old laptop will not power up due to a bad power button board. i have one ordered, however ASUS's ETA on shipping the board is one month. because of this i went ahead and purchased a new laptop.

 

system specs are below

 

Old laptop access setup; Windows log in ( i have my credentials)

User profile: Administrator

4GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1650 Graphics

Storage 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD

 

Since I am not able to power up my ASUS i have the hdd in a Nexstar hdd dock attached to the new laptop

 

It has been eons since i messed around with systems..so i ask what is the best way to bring over my files and some of my applications over to my new system?

or does anyone know how to jump start the asus

You can't just transfer the applications over to another system disk as you would need to overwrite system files, which would then lose the previous data in those files.

 

Perhaps others can comment, but if the systems are close enough to being the same, you might be able to install the old drive into the new system and use it. If that works (and doesn't mess everything up), you would then have all the data and applications. You might have to reinstall some drivers, if the devices (audio, video, etc) are not all the same. The video isn't the same on both, so the drivers could be different and that is just one aspect.

 

It would be best to have a complete backup of the drive before attempting this though.

I would not attempt the old drive in the new computer. They are different computer manufacturers, video, memory, CPU's, and who knows what else. You can transfer your data, pictures, files, etc, BUT not programs (apps).
