You forgot to Right click and Run As Admin when starting FRST but I got enough info anyway.

You are having a problem with the fingerprint reader which is odd since I don't see it in Speccy and there is no mention of the software in your list of Installed Programs in Addition.txt.

Do you use it?

 

 

Start FRST correctly by right clicking and Run As Admin.

Put

upkbu.dll

in FRST's search box.

Hit Search Registry.  Will take a few minutes to complete.  You will only get one log.  Please post.

 

 

Your Process Explorer log looks much improved.  Almost normal.  Is it running better now?

 

Let's try Latency Monitor:

Go to

http://www.resplendence.com/downloads

Scroll down to

System Monitoring Tools

and then find

LatencyMon 6.70 (or it may be a higher number if they update)

Click on Download free home edition

Save it then right click and Run As Admin.  It will install and then start the program.  
It will tell you to click on the Start button but there isn't one.  
Instead click on the green arrowhead (looks like a Play button).   Let it run for at least 20 seconds.  Then hit the red box to stop it.

Edit, Copy Report text to Clipboard then move to a REPLY and Ctrl + v to paste the text into a reply.

 

 

Do you really need both LogMeIn Hamachi & TeamViewer?  One would think one was enough.

I tried the finger reader for the first time about weeks ago but next time back it did not accept.

 

Yes, the machine seems to be running a lot better. Has not frozen up once today !!

 

LogMeIn Hamachi is my access to an ACT! database in Atlanta for a client.  Guess I never need Teamviewer so I'll dump it.

Looking at the searchreg file it appears the file that is giving us problems is a USB attached fingerprint reader.  I suppose it could be internal.  Don't know.  There is a new driver if you still use it otherwise we probably want to get rid of it.

I see a problem with your ACT! program in the error logs.  Is it working OK?

 

Looking at Latency Monitor while it says  it is happy you are getting a lot of pagefaults from Carbonite.  Are you paying for this program?  If so see if there is an update.  If not I would uninstall it.  It usually gets included as a 30 day free trial with new PCs.

It's an internal reader.  I have installed the update. if it still is an issue I'll get rids of it.

 

ACT! right now has a problem of synching with the Atlanta DB but I think it might be an issue of incompatible versions here and there.  I'll ch ae down an ACT tech to see if it is their challenge.

 

Haven't paid any attention to Carbonite for a while so I'll try and get into it tomorrow. Yes. I do pay for it.   Would prefer to have it working correctly unless you can suggest a better backup.

I have enjoyed the luxury of having a computer work as it should for several days.  I depend on my laptop ( business writer) but have not idea what to do when it goes off course.

 

I am deeply grateful to you and the Geeks and wish to thank you for your help and amazing expertise.  You provide an extraordinary service.

 

One Q left open.  Do you recommend I back up on an external drive or continue with Carbonite?

Up to you.  Don't remember what Carbonite costs but an external drive is probably cheaper in the long run tho a bit more trouble.  I use an external drive and I unplug it when not backing up so that if I get infected with ransomware or something it can't get to my backup.  Not sure if Carbonite files are protected from Ransomware somehow since I'm too cheap to use it.
