I assume the one on the left indicates HD activity, but what does the one on the right indicate (the one with a lightbulb symbol under it). Normally that one isn't lit. The last two days it has been on dimly but steady.

Hello debodun,

Do you have a manual for the Compaq DC5700 ?

I think that's the power led indicator.

They both may also offer some diagnostics ability. They may flash red to indicate a problem or something like that.

No, I don't have the manual. I bought it as a refurb from a computer repair shop and they didn't give me one. I also tried to find the manual online, but all I could find was very technical and I didn't understand it - all schematic diagrams. I haven't seen red color - they are green when lit.

Thanks for the link. According to the diagram in that manual, it's the power light. But now I am wondering why when the system is on, why it isn't lighted most of the time. I never noticed it lit before. The last two days I was on steady, sometimes dim and sometimes bright. Today it's dark again.

It IS old. I bought it in January 2012 and it has a Windows 7 - 64 bit OS. As long as it works, I am not rushing out to get a new system. Too may choices these days make it confusing to an old lady. Desktop, laptop, tablet, Chromebook? How much memory? What processor? How does one choose? Back in 2012, there weren't as many factors to consider.

Yes. If that computer works an meets your needs no need to rush out. If you were going to purchase new system the only decision you would need is to a desktop or laptop with Windows installed. You don't really need to worry about ram and processor new computer will have enough power an room to do what you're already doing.

I am disgustingly well, so far. Here in upstate NY, almost everything but essential services are closed. The local school will not re-open until April 20th! I deliver meals-on-wheels and they aren't using the volunteer drivers until further notice; meals are being delivered by county employees. Clients will still get meals, but will receive a week's supply in one delivery to minimize contact. I never remember people being so frightened of a communicable disease before, and I'm pushing 70.
