Here is a new AC only link:  http://speccy.pirifo...6o4VrWq41nw4dAf

Everything is original to laptop.

It did not shut down on battery alone.  I didn't leave it that way for long though.  I did leave it on AC alone and was able to work on it for about 45 minutes before it shut down.

Lower temps when using just the charger as well so it looks like using the two original components together may upset the apple cart quicker than when on battery/charger only  :(

See if you are able to charge the battery up to 100% then remove the charger to see how quickly the battery starts losing its charge and/or if the notebook shuts down.

Most odd  :headscratch:

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.

Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options;

List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply for us.

Couple of things going on but a bit pushed for time as its getting late and I have an early start.

Do you have Dell Support Assist on the computer,if yes, try updating it as it is shown to have issues.

Another problem looks to be with video drivers and possibly related to Vulkan and AMD add on.

See if you are able to run the built in Dell diagnostics "how to" here

I ran all of the diagnostic tests and downloaded 13 drivers including AMD.  The only problem was the battery failed the test with low battery life.  The laptophas stayed on  all evening through all of the tests!  I am hopeful!   :D

Thanks for the update and fingers crossed for you

Just so that you are aware, Dell computers are notoriously fickle, their drivers have to be installed in a certain else they kick off and the Dell BIOS does not like any replacement parts that are third party, this includes batteries, chargers and HDDs etc, letting you know this so you do not get caught off guard should you purchase a replacement battery that is not Dell branded.

Keep us posted on how things go if you will.

I managed to work for most of yesterday on the laptop, which was heaven.  It only shut off twice and that was towards the end.  I tried to finish the Windows Update but just couldn't make it.  And, it just shut off in the middle of writing this.  So, I'm not out of the woods yet.

Do you think that restarting Windows from scratch would help?  Is this problem Windows?

Signed,

A very discouraged Manners 22

Try booting from Linux on a USB thumb drive, see info here if it still shuts down you have ruled out Windows

Know what you mean computers can be so frustrating at times  :(

I definitely took my "dumb" pill today.  Which download do I choose?  Confusing!  There are 2 at the bottom of the page and a big warning.  Thanks for your patience with me!

I'm sorry. This seems to be a tad over my head.  I can't find an .iso file, etc., because I don't know what one is or where it is kept.  I have my USB but am not sure it is formatted correctly.  I fooled with thi for hours last night, in between restarts.  Stuck in a pandemic with my Dell!  Ugh!   :X

I feel SO stupid.  When I'm installing, the second question asks for the .iso and has you browse for it.  No .iso comes up in the Travel Drive.  Where else do I browse?  I can't seem to get past this.

Thanks for your help and continued patience.

I'm still restarting.
