internet explorer gone - desktop now gone too

i was going through some things i read on your site to try and remove a hijack virus of some sort that was in my internet explorer and it deleted somehow through use of one of my spyware detect programs. now i have no desktop or icons, window menu etc and am forced to get to sites and programs using task manager. any help would be appreciated.

Open task manager then click file, new task, type explorer.exe, click OK, you should get the desktop, reboot and see if it loads

Run all the programmes as advised then post a current Hijack This log to the malware section

well thats one of the problems. explorer is gone and when i search it, it says the file cannot be found. is there a way i can download and install explorer?

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter to replace missing system files, you need the XP CD and get a progress bar

i cant get to my start menu. is there a way to do it through task manager?

ok that part worked, i just need to find my cd. thanks a lot for the help. i'll report back after i find it.

Get Everest Home

Click + next to software then licenses to get the product key

Then contact Microsoft to get the disc replaced

If you know someone with the same version, you can borrow their disc for this.
