Best Answer phillpower2 , 31 May 2020 - 04:43 AM

If the computer is definitely the small form factor model and not the ultra small form factor version to be able to play games such as Fallout 4 you will need to purchase the following; A new... Go to the full post »

Hi Liz602m

Congrats on getting your new computer. I hope it will serve you well and you will enjoy it.

As a general rule of thumb I would be inclined not to update BIOS unless there is a particular reason to do so.... If there is no particular functionality that a revised BIOS would provide and there are no problems that need a BIOS update then it's best left alone.

However if you have already updated the BIOS and it's all still working OK with no problems, then breathe a sigh of relief and you can relax!

If your machine is saying that the drivers you have, are more up to date than the ones available from the Dell website and your new computer is working well and doing everything you want it to then its another sigh and time for further relaxation.

When it comes to upgrading hardware, can you tell us what you have in mind please?,

If it's just maximising RAM and fitting an SSD rather than a "spinner" that should provide no problems and its likely that your PSU will not be over taxed.... however if you are desiring to fit additional power hungry devices then its best to check that your existing PSU is likely to be up to it....(many proprietory machines (Dell included) often fit PSU that are perfectly adequate for the hardware as installed when shipped, but may need replacing when power hungry devices are installed.

Thank you so much for getting right back with me you guys are the BEST! That being said I know this may sound silly but I am a big Fallout fan and one of the main reasons I got a new computer was so I could play Fallout 4, but alas it lags and crashes, I was thinking of a new cpu what do you think?

I wouldn't worry at the moment about PCI drivers....

I am not a gamer so the ins and outs of Fallout 4 are not in my sphere of expertise...however I found the following site which gives the recoommended spec to run it satisfactorily.

It's usually best to ignore completely the Minimum spec... as whilst it may run, it may not run sufficiently well to satisfy you.

https://www.systemre...fallout-4/12905

Does the spec of your new computer match the recommended spec???

The CPU is important but not quite so important as the RAM, Video card, etc.

First let me thank you for your time it is appreciated, man  I am so depressed again my computer doesn't measure up the software for my gpu said the card doesn't meet minimum and the cpu just meets the minimum. I have a Dell Opti plex 790 with a amd radeon r5 240 gpu a Intel i5  2400 cpu and it is little so I think putting in upgrades is going to be hard, PLEASE if you can help me I worked hard in a restaurant to get this money wish I would have taken more time...

Hi Liz602m,

I will consult with senior colleagues who have greater expertise in assessing the computer spec that is needed to run your game, but in the meantime please

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here,

https://www.ccleaner...file-to-the-web

this will provide us with information about your computer’s existing hardware + any software that you have installed that may point the way forward.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Hello Liz602m,

The Speccy url would be real helpful to us as would knowing the model name or number of the Dell computer so that we can check the specs of the power supply as Speccy has no way of detecting this and we need to know the information before being able to suggest any upgrades, Fallout 4 for example requires an add on video card and if your computer only has onboard video the computer may only have something like a generic 300W PSU which is nowhere near the specs required by a decent add on video card.

A word to the wise regarding BIOS and driver up dates.

Once Windows has been installed, you install the necessary drivers for the MB and other hardware and then leave well alone, drivers should not be allowed to auto update and you should never update any driver/s unless the new drivers are intended to resolve a specific issue that you are having, installing new drivers unnecessarily can actually cause you the very issues that any new drivers are intended to resolve and uninstalling the new drivers may not resolve the problem/s that installing the new drivers has caused.

Depending on priority it can take many months before the driver provider releases any fix and they sometimes do not even bother.

You guys are so kind to spend your time helping people, the first time I used this web site was years ago and I had down loaded a game and installed all kinds of nasty files, it was awful I didn't think there was any hope for me, but 1 of your techs answered me and slowly walked me though it, I will never forget him, I really was impressed! So thank you for helping me! Just let me know what you come up with ;-)

Sorry but the above is not what we need, we need the Speccy url + the model name or number of the Dell Computer so that we can check the power supply details, we cannot safely advise you if we don`t have the correct information, below is how to get a Speccy url to us, in case you are not aware all that the url is is a direct link to your computer specs.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Hello Mod, and Paws, I am so confused, I downloaded the software you guys asked for, and ran the program then copied and pasted the results and I can see the Model name and # and everything else about my computer, what did I do wrong? Is it that you can not see the Speccy results or that I gave you the wrong information?
